The problem is not that people are taxed too little, the problem is that government spends too much

michaelhiggsWhen Ronald Reagan said, “The problem is not that people are taxed too little, the problem is that government spends too much,” he could have been referring to Maryland. Especially today, when the other party has raised gas taxes over 80 percent, and their spending addiction to special interests returns a meager 18 cents out of every dollar to Montgomery County. Keeping those spendaholics accountable has turned into a pipe dream.

That’s why it’s so inspiring to see our wonderful candidates and enthusiastic volunteers campaigning for a more business-friendly, free market environment, and an end to one-party rule in Maryland. During this
campaign season, the door is opening to political alternatives as never before, so it’s important to keep
fighting the good fight!

A big thank you to everyone who attended our Red, White & You Grassroots Dinner on Wednesday night in Gaithersburg. It was an exciting evening with keynote speaker Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) and emcee Larry O’Connor to keep everyone engaged and entertained.

My thanks also goes to State Senate Candidate Frank Howard for addressing the group and making Senator Johnson’s visit possible.

In addition to inspiring speeches, good food and great company, awards were given to several deserving recipients. Congratulations to the following winners who work tirelessly to promote the party and it’s principles:

  • Matthew Foldi – Youth of the Year
  • David Drake – Republican Man of the Year
  • Tonie Lanier – Republican Woman of the Year
  • Nahid and Issa Khozeimeh  – Forbes Blair Award

Libby Wright was also the lucky winner of a $150 Clyde’s gift certificate during our raffle. (See what you miss when you don’t attend)?

Finally, please remember to check our calendar regularly between now and election day. We have many events and District meetings scheduled to help us reach as many voters as possible and ensure a strong turnout.  It will take determined persistence for the next few weeks but I am confident that our candidates, with your help and support, can win and help us End One Party Rule.
