Outsiders Win MCGOP Presidential Straw Poll

The Montgomery County Republican Party conducted a presidential straw poll at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair this past week. Visitors to the MCGOP booth were invited to take the straw poll, where they could indicated their top 3 choices from the crowded field of 16 Republican presidential candidates. First place choices were counted as three votes, second place votes were counted as two votes, and third place and un-ranked votes were counted as one vote. A total of 329 ballots were cast, with 1595 votes assigned to the various candidates.

The final results were:

1. Ben Carson – 252 (15.8%)
2. Donald Trump – 207 (13%)
3. Marco Rubio – 185 (11.6%)
4. Carly Fiorina – 180 (11.3%)
5. Ted Cruz – 163 (10.2%)
6. Jeb Bush – 145 (9.1%)
7. Scott Walker – 139 (8.7%)
8. John Kasich – 92 (5.8%)
9. Chris Christie – 67 (4.2%)
10. Mike Huckabee – 54 (3.4%)
11. Rand Paul – 38 (2.4%)
12. Rick Santorum – 26 (1.6%)
13. Rick Perry – 20 (1.3%)
14. Bobby Jindal – 14 (0.9%)
15. Lindsey Graham – 8 (0.5%)
16. Write-ins – 4 (0.2%)
