Meet Our Special Guest Speaker, Joe diGenova
2017 Lincoln Day Speaker
Joseph E. diGenova
Celebrated legal and political analyst on WMAL’s “Mornings on the Mall” and in the national media
Joseph E. diGenova, founding partner of the Washington, D.C. law firm of diGenova & Toensing, LLP, represents individuals, corporations and other entities before the Federal courts, Congress, and U.S. cabinet departments and agencies on criminal, civil, administrative and investigative matters.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, diGenova, whose father was an opera singer, says he had a “spectacular childhood,” growing up in a family that was focused on operatic theater, art and literature.
His fascination with politics began sometime between the ages of 10 – 12 when he received a subscription to The New York Times for his birthday.
After graduating from Georgetown University Law School, diGenova began his career as Legislative Assistant to the late Senator Mathias (R-MD) and went on to serve as Chief of Staff of the Rules Committee and Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Select Intelligence Committee. Nominated by President Reagan as the U.S. Attorney for District of Columbia he served for four years during which time he hauled then-Mayor Marion Barry before a federal grand jury for corruption.
He was involved in the cases of the Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard and the TWA Flight 847 hijacker Mohammed Ali Hammadi as well as in the Clinton passport case, the Valerie Plame case, investigations of the Teamsters and many others.
More recently, he has commented extensively on the Hillary Clinton email scandal and the fact that former Obama administration officials have allegedly been disclosing and discussing classified information with the press, and he maintains that the bigger story is the ongoing war of leaks between entrenched federal employees, loyal to Obama, who are in the Trump White House.
