2017 MCGOP Lincoln Day Dinner was a Winner!
By Gail Weiss
This year’s Lincoln Day Dinner at the Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase was a fabulously fun evening. WMAL radio personality Larry O’Connor was wonderfully funny and entertaining, and Joe DiGenova was an impassioned speaker, urging us onward.
President Trump’s win in November wasn’t the end of our work. In fact, it’s just the beginning, as we all can see on the news every day. A steady and focused speech from the new chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee, Dick Jurgena, was inclusive and urging ‘all hands on deck’ as he expressed appreciation for the importance of every person’s contribution.
This year’s dinner included a table of Jewish Republicans, (plus a terrific new Greek American Republican friend!), new to local political activism, who were brought together by the Term Limits effort that won by 70% (that fact never gets old!) One of the guests brought her grandson who is in his high school Republican club in Anne Arundel County; the future generation of Republican voters.
And there were one or two tables full of Chinese American Republicans who have had their political awakening as a result of Donald Trump’s election. From individual conversations with them, it is clear how much their American citizenship (acquired legally) means to them, and it’s beautiful to witness their new participation in democracy.
This polished and professional event provided reassuring confirmation of the diversity and the patriotism of the Republican Party in Montgomery County, despite how Leftists seek to portray us. If this event was the work product of the Central Committee, then political success in 2018 is looking very good.
