Lincoln Dinner Invocation
Given by Hessie Harris at the MCGOP Lincoln Day Dinner
at the Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD on
May 23, 2017
Tonight we are here to honor the life of President Abraham Lincoln who led the nation through the Civil War and for whom we thank God Almighty.
But let us first bow our heads in prayer to ask God to give solace to the victims of the Manchester massacre and their families and that through His infinite wisdom and guidance in the affairs of mankind we will be hastened to the day when supplications such as this one are no longer needed.
Let us further pray for President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Governor Hogan as they lead us through these tumultuous times. Let us pray for the preservation of our Union, the freedoms that we hold so dear and for the healing of our divided country so that it will once again be one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
May the Lord bless this gathering, our food and our work. May He remind us to draw strength, courage and direction from the words President Lincoln so eloquently spoke in his Second Inaugural Address when he said
“With malice toward none; with charity for all; with the firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves and with all nations.”
