While the month of July is traditionally a period of rest and relaxation away from our normal hectic schedules, in Montgomery County this year it also marks the emergence of a newly energized Republican Party, which is deeply immersed in building and organizing party regulars and newcomers for the action-packed year that lies ahead in 2018. Mark my words: It will be here sooner than you think.
And this time around, we’ll be entering the election season from a position of strength.
With Republican governor Larry Hogan in the State House and President Donald Trump in the White House, a new era of business leadership has taken hold. In fact, Governor Hogan’s solid leadership since 2014 has not only earned the undying loyalty of his supporters, but also the 2nd highest gubernatorial approval rating in the country that consistently hovers around 70 percent.
Another major accomplishment – on the county level – is that Term Limits for the Montgomery County Council passed in 2016 by an overwhelming thirds majority.
Another major victory occurred in March of this year when the Montgomery County Central Committee, together with our Asian-American colleagues, successfully blocked plans by the State Assembly to turn Maryland into a sanctuary state.
These victories are not just a fluke. Together, they not only set the stage for a resounding victory for Gov. Larry Hogan in 2018, but also a dramatic shift in the political makeup of our county government.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. There are no Republican officials in the county to stop the Democrat machine that has controlled our government for so long. That’s why we must step up and be the opposition.
With your help, we can re-elect Governor Larry Hogan next year, and also send some Republicans tot he County Council, along with a Republican County Executive, State Republican senators and delegates — and Republicans to the three U.S. congressional seats that represent parts of our county.
Something positive to think about during your summer break…
