Letter to Editor: Shocked by Council Candidacy
By Brad Botwin
You would think that after residing for 30 years in Montgomery County that I would be hardened to letters such as “Shocked by deportation” by Hoan Dang, “Candidate for County Council”, August 10 Sentinel. Mr. Dang, a post Vietnam War refugee to the U.S., seems to have forgotten his freedom seeking roots and is now siding with local elements that more closely resemble the North Vietnamese Government that his parents fortunately escaped.
How is it possible that Dang has come out in support of CASA of Maryland and two criminal El Salvadoran illegal aliens, Lizandro and Diego Claros? They represent the worst of those who abuse our immigration system and open society for selfish political and financial ends.
Did Dang miss the reporting that the Claros brothers had more skills than just playing soccer? They were quite good at avoiding our system of justice, having arrived under false pretense (border jumpers not refugees). After multiple failed attempts to win court approval to stay in the U.S. and an arrest for fraudulently using Guatemalan passports and visas under different identities, these “citizens in waiting” were finally shipped home to El Salvador. The fabric of America does not welcome or need the likes of these two “bad hombres”.
Mr Dang, I believe you are doing a disservice to the thousands of fellow Vietnamese who risked their lives to escape forced re education camps or death at the hands of the brutal North Vietnamese Communist Regime. Re-think comparing your journey to America to those of Hispanic illegal aliens. Frankly, it’s time for you not to “stand up” but to just sit down.
