Parade in Damascus on Friday and Celebrate Damascus on Saturday

District 14 has a place in the Damascus Parade on Friday Evening July 8th . The parade begins at 7:00 but if you wish to participate please arrive at least by 6:30. Kathy Szeiliga, Dan Cox, Amie Hoeber and Mark Plaster will also be in the parade and we would like to have other marchers join us.

The meeting place is at the parking lot at Damascus High School – the corner of Ridge Road and Bethesda Church Road. You will not be able to park there, but there is parking in the shopping center across from the HS, Damascus Elementary School cattycorner to the HS and along Bethesda Church Road. When you walk into the parking lot ask for the Republican Party or District 14. The person with the roster should direct you to our staging area. They have not yet sent me the space number.

It is very difficult to get to Damascus by Rt 124 (Woodfield Road) or Rt 27 ((Ridge Road) coming from 270 on the night of the parade. Those roads close for the parade at 5:00 and they have rush hour traffic which backs up for quite a way. Coming all the way up Rt 108 from Olney into Damascus or New Hampshire which comes into 108 is a better way to go. There is a Pizza Place and Chinese Restaurant across the street from the HS if you want to arrive early.

The parade ends at the end of Lewis Drive where there will be fireworks. If you have more than one car in the group, it would be best to park one there and one near the HS so you will not have to walk all the way back.

The following day, Saturday July 10th is the Celebrate Damascus Day and there will be activities all over the town. The party has a booth there. We will be handing out candidate literature, getting petition signatures and registering voters. We would appreciate anyone’s participation at the booth or walking around town handing out campaign literature.
