Maryland legislators are doubling down on the Montgomery County Council’s Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) that will eliminate gas heating and cooking in many Maryland buildings. The 'Better Buildings Act' would require new buildings constructed in Maryland to be completely electric.

The scope of these upgrades for new homes in Maryland would be expensive. The Montgomery County regulations would be massive and require upgrades to building electrical services that Pepco can’t provide, requiring completely rewiring of the buildings to accommodate electric appliances and HVAC while often requiring the displacement of occupants for months at a time.
It is beyond fathomable that both the County and state would pass this legislation without fully understanding the pain that would be felt by their citizens.
If you agree that Montgomery County has overreached and needs to table the BEPS implementing regulations. Sign this Petition before February 25th when the County Council intends to finalize the proposed regulation.
