Dennis Melby Reports
YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE PARTIES
To my many Democrat friends, believe me, I understand why you don’t change parties. Montgomery county and the state of Maryland are heavily controlled by the Democrat Party. Many folks are worried about their jobs, their neighbors and about getting a positive response from the government if they’re registered as a Republican, sometimes even an independent will draw ire from our elected representatives. I do understand.
When I served on my town council even though it was non-partisan my opposition always painted me as "the Republican", and tried to get people to vote against me because of that. Thankfully it didn’t work. We, as Republicans appreciate your quiet support, so many folks have moved over to vote Republican, especially immigrant citizens to the United States – people who came from repressive overseas governments. There your party registration would sometimes dictate whether you could work, get enough food to put on the table, even police protection instead of surveillance. Certainly now when you see folks being assaulted, TESLA dealerships burning and college campuses erupting in violence it doesn't put you at ease.
We thank you for everything you do, for your quiet votes on election day, the smile at our table when you’re going to vote, the gracious greeting when we come to your door, and even the way you encourage others to donate and support us. You are appreciated.
Even though we're now the majority party in the US we're still the minority party here in MoCo and Maryland, but we’re moving forward. I promise you one day you won’t have to worry about whether you’re registered as a Republican or a Democrat, or even nonaffiliated. We don’t judge you, we appreciate you.
