Opposing the teaching of racial hatred in our public schools

Testimony of Amy Waychoff

Member of the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee

To the Montgomery County Board of Education August 24, 2021

Thank you for this opportunity to testify. I have lived in Montgomery County  for 33 years, and all three of my children graduated from MCPS.

In a recent viral video, a man in Colorado, who happens to be descended  from slaves, convinced his school board to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) with  these words: “I can think of nothing more damaging to a society than to tell a  baby born today that she has grievances against another baby born today simply because of what their ancestors did two centuries ago.” Derrick Wilburn was  referring to one aspect of CRT that is being taught right here in Montgomery  County.

CRT posits that White people are inherently racist, from birth, while Black  people and other minorities are victims, oppressed by the white supremacy that supposedly permeates everything.

MCPS will deny that its schools are teaching CRT. But this Marxist  ideology goes by many euphemisms, and one undeniably used in MCPS is the  doctrine of becoming “antiracist.” No matter how it is phrased, however, it is  racism. Earlier this year, some of our fourth and fifth graders read Tiffany Jewel’s  “This Book is Anti-Racist.” The author states,

  • Non-White students should “go to the head of the line,” but if you are White,  “step aside.”

By these metrics, school board members who are White should resign immediately. Are you planning to do so? If you do not, then by your lack of action you agree that CRT is insane and absurd.

 Also in Jewel’s book,

  • We must “fracture the very foundation of our racist society” and “shake it all up so it can crumble.” This is a revolutionary statement.

Last year, Cabin John Middle School had its ENTIRE COMMUNITY read a  book coauthored by Ibram X. Kendi, who asserts that “the only remedy to racist  discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination  is present discrimination.”

There are many Black Americans who disagree with Kendi. Derrick  Wilburn testified that “I’m not oppressed and . . . putting CRT in classrooms is not  combating racism. It’s fanning the flames of what little embers are left.” I agree  with him: “let racism die the death it deserves.”

Thank you for this opportunity to present my views.

Tonight's Important Topic

In recent years, American citizens have risen to the challenges posed by left-wing politicians and their tax and spend, deficit creating policies. New and never-ending social welfare programs, anti-police policies, rising crime and growing illegal immigration are just a few leftist policies designed to weaken our nation.  The Tea Party movement followed by the Trump Revolution were positive national reactions to the leftist Democrats attempt at the fundamental transformation of America.

Now a new neo-Marxist ideology, the baseline of seemingly all Democrat Party initiatives, has emerged from the bowels of our leftist universities.  Packaged under the term Critical Race Theory, it is an amalgamation of anti-American ideologies which crush diversity of opinion, pit Whites against the so-called ‘People of Color” and demand the destruction of our “racist” founding principles and the Constitution.

Our speakers will delve into the actual Critical Race Theory based activities underway on university and college campuses, K-12 schools and the private sector.  The speakers will also provide insights into how we can work together to stop and reverse the spread of these hateful and destructive activities which are tearing our nation apart.

Moderator- Dennis Melby

Dennis Melby, who is a former Party Chairman, Town Councilmember and Association President, will serve as moderator.

Black Eye for America

Meet Co-Author Dr. Christopher Schorr. who, with Dr. Carol Swain, has written the definitive book on how forced teachings inspired by critical race theory are threatening the foundation of American democracy.

With a forward by Dr. Ben Carson, this book is opening the eyes of many Americans to the threat of this baseless philosophy, and gives us all information on how to push back against this form of racism - especially here in Montgomery County.

Dr. Schorr will give comments about the book and the efforts by folks to oppose this abhorrent philosophy. We'll have books available to purchase or go HERE to purchase on-line.

This event is co-sponsored by the many MC Republican clubs & organizations.

August Chairman's Message

Many in our great nation are taking advantage of the warm weather and enjoying mask less fellowship with family and friends. A time to recharge, reflect and reconnect with loved ones after 18 months of lockdowns, big tech censorship, the teaching of revisionist history in our schools, voter integrity issues, stagnate job growth and now the explosion of crime in our county.

Over the past 18 months, we have all sacrificed and lost our sense of balance and humanity,  yet in the midst of uncertainty, we have not only survived, but thrived thanks to our uniquely American spirit. These challenging times have tested our character, but our local party has not backed down. It has tested our perseverance, but we are still here and we are growing.

Even a quick glance at the media it is plain to see that our county is under siege by criminals that feel embolden by the progressive Democrat movement to defund the police. The significant increase in homicides in Montgomery County, Maryland has led county police Chief Marcus Jones to label it a “disturbing trend.” Carjacking's are on the rise, particularly in the Silver Spring and Bethesda area. We have had nearly a 40% jump in armed robberies in the county,” Jones said. The spike comes as the police department faces challenges of recruiting and retaining officers. It is time for the good people to take a stand against crime. We ask for your support to visit the police with Sandy Tuttle and the GOP woman’s groups, become educated about the topic and talk to your neighbors and provide a donation that will help us produce video, blog post that will get the message out to ALL the members of our county, regardless of their party regarding this common sense issue.

Another major issue that will effect our county for many years is redistricting on both the state and county levels. It is imperative that any new districts that are redrawn be fair and allow the 100,000 Republicans in Montgomery County to have their voices heard. Please reach out to the state and local redistricting commission, testify, write letters and call to make your voices heard. Let them know that we Republicans will not no longer stand for gerrymandered districts. (https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/BCC/redistricting/ )

And for some good news … the MCGOP “Summer Soiree” was a great success, bringing in over 120 like-minded Republicans for an evening of fun and fellowship with great speakers, amazing food and entertainment.  Anne Koutsoutis and her team “knocked it out of the park” A short video is located here: https://youtu.be/JM4oDxsyqfU

We have sworn in three great Republicans to the Central Committee: Monte Gingrey- LD-16, Amy Waychoff – LD-18 and Michael Glynn as Parliamentarian. They will be working hard to move the MCGOP forward and fight against the progressive Democrat agenda.

Bill Richbourg and his team are putting together both live and zoom events to pushback against CRT and the teaching of revisionist history in our schools.

Ann Hingston is looking for great Republican candidates throughout the county that are clear, focused, articulate can represent the party effectively.

If you know of local conservative organization or groups, please point them our way so that we can continue the MCGOP goal of working together to make Montgomery County better.

Our party is growing and we need tech help. Anyone that has database, social media or SQL expertise and can dedicate 6 to 10 hours per week is urged to contact me.

If you are interested in being part of the Party's’ growth or would like to be an observer at an MCGOP meeting by zoom please contact me.

We have all stayed up nights worrying about the future that seams unclear. During these challenging times we must apricate each other and celebrate what we have accomplished knowing the despite our fears that we are making a difference. Do not struggle in silence share your story… not as a victim but as a victor.

As always, thanks for being a great Republican, and if you can send me a note at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you. Your notes are encouraging and welcome.

MCGOP Chairman
