I wish I had a dime for every time that I’ve heard a career politician say, “When I’m elected, the Government will bring jobs to Montgomery County.”

That type of statement from the political elite shows a basic misunderstanding of how jobs are actually created.

“Government doesn’t create jobs -  Businesses do.”

One of my other jobs...I also serve as the Vice President of the Republican Club of Leisure World in Silver Spring. Last Wednesday we had a wonderful guest speaker, Rabbi Dr. Peter Tarlow, on Socialism and Antisemitism. It brought in a capacity crowd...we ran out of chairs. Yes, MoCo Republicans are welcome...check out the schedule for more events coming soon.

BALANCING INPUT

AND OUTCOME

In an editorial, the Wall Street Journal noted that former Attorney General Eric Holder of Takoma Park, Montgomery County’s ultra-liberal enclave, had been spearheading efforts to get state courts to redraw election maps he finds unfair.

“Unfair” by his definition is when Democrats win fewer congressional seats than their percentage of the statewide popular vote. Curiously, it’s a definition that was originally applied by the New York Times following the 2012 Maryland elections, the first to reflect a Democratic gerrymander which still applies to the state.

The Times observed back then that “In Maryland, Republicans won 35% of the votes but just 13% of the seats.” So, surely, Mr. Holder must have put Maryland high on his list of offenders to be challenged in court. But actually, it was not on his list at all, nor was any other state where Democrats benefited from gerrymandering. How coincidental.

2030 will be the occasion for the next decennial census which in turn will be the basis for redistricting and, as such, will influence elections for a decade to come.

It has been proposed that redistricting be done by an independent, non-partisan commission but Democrats won’t commit. After all, who knows who might win how many seats in such a scenario.

Taxes Through the Roof!

TAXES THROUGH THE ROOF

By Dennis Brent Melby

Democrat majorities in Rockville and Annapolis. Taxes through the roof. Have you had enough yet?

Martin O’Malley wanted to tax the rain – Larry Hogan (no Trump conservative)  lowered nuisance fees and left the state with a surplus.

Wes (I want to run for President) Moore spent the surplus and raised fees and taxes through the roof. Not to be outdone Marc ElrichTaxes | RCDInfo and Will Jawando said “Hold my beer, I’ll see you and raise you one!” Let’s spend tax money on our campaigns, on groups that will help get us elected and to prove there’s no ceiling to our spending - empty buses, empty bus lanes, closed schools and lowering grades for the kids. We’ll make sure we DON’T spend it on cops in schools, but make sure the Apple Ballot crew gets raises in this election year.

Is there an alternative? You bet. Haven’t you had enough? I sure have, and so have most of the voters in Montgomery County. I’m so glad so many Democrat friends read our newsletter too.

The Jawando Experiment

By Lori Jaffe (with apologies to Jay Ward and his team.)

It was a lazy August afternoon in MoCo. Kidney and Lloyd, two moon men who had recently landed on earth, were bored and looking for something to do.

Lloyd: “Hey Kidney, what do you want to do today?”

Kidney: “Oh I don’t know Lloyd, what do you think?”

Lloyd: “So far we’ve had a fun time here on earth. But now that things have settled down, life is pretty boring.”

Kidney: “I know what you mean Lloyd, we need to think.”

And so they thought, and they thought some more…

Lloyd: “I know, the mid-term elections are coming up. What do you say we create a politician?”
