Every year about this time, our legislators in Annapolis mount numerous assaults on our freedoms. The assaults are many, but we must get together and fight the most egregious actions underway. Numbers make a difference!
The Montgomery County Delegation to the Maryland General Assembly is proposing the institution of Ranked Choice Voting in our county and this practice may then spread throughout the state.
“Ranked Choice Voting” means a method of casting and tabulating votes in which voters rank candidates in order of preference and votes are tabulated in a manner that reflects voter preference.
There is a hearing on this issue this Friday morning, February 5th, 2021. It is essential that your representatives hear from you regarding the possible institution of Ranked Choice Voting in Montgomery County.
Below, please find a very short message to your representative listing a few bullet points opposing the institution of Ranked Choice Voting.
Please copy the message below, insert the name of your Delegate, insert your name and address at the bottom, and then email to your three state delegates who are listed, by Legislative District, below the message. Of course, you can add, subtract or modify the message as you see fit.
If you are unclear about which Legislative District you are in, you can enter your address here:
If you would like to submit written testimony or sign up to testify on Friday morning, you can visit the following website: https://www.montgomerycountydelegation.com/testify.html
Thank you for making a difference!!!

Subject Line: Ranked Choice Voting? - NO!!!!
Dear Delegate XXXXXXX,
I understand that the Montgomery County Delegation is considering the institution of Ranked Choice Voting in our county. I think this is a terrible idea for many reasons including the following:
⦁ Ranked Choice Voting makes the voting process more complicated. There is a drop-off in Voters voting for “down-ballot” races already. Making the process longer and more confusing will likely discourage voters from voting. It will increase wait times at the polling places.
⦁ In races with large numbers of candidates Voters, whose chosen candidates receive the fewest votes, will have their votes discarded—not even counted. Such action disenfranchises the voter.
⦁ RCV complicates/slows vote counting and certifying elections process, while voters wait for an algorithm to calculate winner in multiple rounds. Delays/confusion undermine voters’ trust in the election system.
For these reasons and many others please do NOT proceed with instituting Ranked Choice Voting in Montgomery County!
Thank you very much!
