Ban Critical Race Theory

Montgomery County GOP Urges Government and MCPS to Ban Critical Race Theory

The Montgomery County Republican Central Committee affirms our opposition to the use of county property or public funds for the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and its insidious academic movement by progressive activists to restructure perceptions and education of our students with distorted views of race in our schools.

In a letter to Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, GOP Chairman Reardon Sullivan reminds that “we fought a war against racism, a war where almost a million Americans died for the idea that all men are created equal. It would be a travesty to reinstate what is clearly racist and divisive orthodoxy, which separates Americans into opposing camps, based solely on the color of their skin.”

Given the failure of Marxism everywhere it was tried, from the Soviet Union to Cuba, Sullivan warns some on the far left are now trying to use CRT to substitute race for economics in an ongoing effort to divide society. To that end, he observes, Critical Race Theory is being infused into government agencies, public school curricula and teacher training programs hiding behind “buzz words” such as equity, social justice, diversity and culturally responsive to obscure their true objective.

“Equity,” for example, sounds a lot like “equality” but the distinction is dangerous. To progressives, “equality” is nothing more than cover for white supremacy. “Equity” is hard core Marxism as spelled out by UCLA critical race theorist Cheryl Harris who proposes suspending private property rights, seizing land and wealth and redistributing them along racial lines. Likewise,  Boston University professor Ibram X Kendi proposes creating a federal Department of Antiracism, independent of and superior to the elected branches of government, with the power to nullify, veto, or abolish any law at any level of government and curtail speech of political leaders and others who are deemed insufficiently “antiracist”.

GOP Chairman Sullivan says Montgomery County’s leaders and citizens must have the courage to stand and speak the truth, face the mob, and shrug off the scorn of the elites. He says this highly educated and wealthy county needs to be a leader in saying NO to the destructive ideology of Critical Race Theory. “We need to bring everyone together as Americans and not divide ourselves by race, creed, color, nationality or any other artificial label… what matters is the content of your heart."
