Dr. Fauci and President Trump

Dr. Fauci and President Trump

By Brigitta Mullican

The following is a March 2020 letter to the Montgomery County Council

Dear Montgomery County Council Members, yesterday I listened to part of the March 24th Montgomery County Council session and am very disappointed with DHHS Chief Travis Gayles' negative comments made about our president, especially in reference to Dr. Anthony Fauci not agreeing with President Trump.  If you listen to the interview with Dr. Fauci, he does not agree that there is a rift between them. The following quote from Breitbart.com is a very unprofessional comment to make about our president.

"COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER CALLS TRUMP’S COMMENTS ‘RECKLESSLY IRRESPONSIBLE’ AND ‘DISGUSTING’"

What is gained by promoting this kind of division, especially at this time?  Does our county DHHS think he is better informed or more experienced than Drs. Fauci or Birx, who are icons in their fields and are sincerely involved in their important work with President Trump? Or is it simply more important for Chief Gayles to score petty political points?

Shame on you for making these negative comments about our president; it does not help anyone during this crisis. What are you doing for the local small businesses and families that are hurting during this shutdown? It is your job to represent all county citizens fairly, not to look for ways to criticize President Trump. Please HELP Montgomery County residents, instead of working so hard to score political points.

Please listen to Dr. Fauci's statements which are contrary to your comments (see link below). I believe Dr. Fauci has been great working with our President, the Coronavirus Task Force and the Coronavirus Task Force.

Here is another article which contradicts another false reporting:  "Fauci Would Prescribe Chloroquine to Patient Suffering From COVID-19"  by Larry O'Connor, Posted: Mar 25, 2020, 10:00 AM.

"During the past 24 hours, Dr. Anthony Fauci said there is no foundational difference between himself and President Trump in how to deal with the government's response to COVID-19, that the president has never over-ruled his recommendations, that he wished the media would stop trying to pit him against the president and, now, we learn that he would prescribe hydroxychloroquine to a patient if he were treating a person for the coronavirus.

One of the most despicable political sideshows of the American media's failed coverage of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is the endless and relentless insistence that there is some kind of huge disagreement and even hostility between President Trump and Dr. Fauci, the man he inserted as one of the point players in his coronavirus task force.”

Our president is dealing with a global crisis, and by all objective measures he is doing far better than any other recent president who has dealt with a pandemic.  He has more information at his disposal than you have (Dr. Fauci has also stated this) and has to consider all aspects of the crisis on our American economy, and he is working with all the governors and an appointed Coronoavirus Task Force.  Soon you will be working with the Federal Emergency Funds to help our County.

I am keeping myself up-to-date on the coronavirus information by visiting our governor's Coronavirus Disease COVID - 2019 Outbreak at https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/#FAQ   The numbers have been changing each day.

Please stop bashing President Trump.  Many of us believe our president is doing a good job under the most challenging circumstances.  All the instructions coming from governors are based on statements that our president has been making for weeks. Have you been listening?

You should concentrate on the best way our tax dollars are spent and the funds that will come from the Federal Government.

How will you help get Maryland Emergency Relief Funds to our county businesses who really need the help?

Maryland COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund Programs for Businesses:

Maryland has authorized $130 million in loan and grant funding for small businesses and manufacturers that have been negatively impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This emergency assistance provides interim relief and proceeds that can be used to pay cash operating expenses including payroll, suppliers, rent, fixed debt payments and other mission-critical cash operating costs.

By the way, I was not able to hear the entire council session because it cut off in the middle of the video. Can you clarify WHY that occurred?

Please help our community become whole again and stop criticizing President Trump. We need leaders who LEAD and who do not behave or permit the behavior from their appointed officials who create unnecessary division especially at this time when we are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. I urge you to send Dr. Gayles a clear message to immediately change his conduct or he will be replaced.
