John Myrick, 2026 Candidate for Governor of Maryland, has chosen his Lieutenant Governor!
You can meet John Myrick in person at the next MCGOP Breakfast Club on Tuesday, May 13th.
Mr. Myrick announced on April 30th at 12 noon in Annapolis that Dr. Brenda J. Thiam, a professional educator and former Maryland Delegate for Washington County, will be his running mate for Lt. Governor. At the press conference, Mr. Myrick shared his vision for Maryland and introduced Dr. Thiam with the following statement, “I look forward to working with Dr. Thiam as a strong partner to save our great state. As life-long dedicated public servants, we both know the importance of serving the needs and interests of the people, not the government. The current budget deficits and economic conditions in Maryland have created a very challenging time for most Marylanders. We are here to fix Maryland and create a new safe and prosperous future for all Marylanders!”
John’s background (johnmyrickformdgovernor.com): “I have spent my entire adult life defending Maryland and our Nation. Early in my career, I served as a Harford County Deputy Sheriff - the only Maryland Candidate for Governor from either Party to have ever worn a badge. I served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves before retiring in 2008. I am a highly decorated combat veteran and continued the tradition of military service that dates back in my family to the founding of the Nation - nearly 250 years of near-continuous service to the defense of Maryland and America. While serving in the Air Force Reserves, I was a highly decorated and highly respected Civilian Senior Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Intelligence Community and was considered an expert in asymmetric threats such as terrorism, drugs, and weapons of mass destruction. I have lectured at a number of major universities throughout the country on National Security policy issues. I have presented briefings on dozens of occasions to Congressional Committees and individual Members, and have briefed NATO leadership. I also served as a keynote speaker for a international conference on counterterrorism hosted by the Australian Federal Police. This experience has given me a rather unique perspective of how our National-level Decision-makers approach issues of global importance, and on how to work with these Decision-makers to achieve positive outcomes. Since leaving Federal Civil Service, I have been a Contract Senior Advisor for several federal agencies, including the U.S. Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.”
Brenda’s background (National Center for Public Policy Research): “Dr. Brenda J. Thiam was born and raised in Raeford, North Carolina. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in physical education from North Carolina Central University, her master’s from the University of Maryland (College Park) in special education, her doctorate in special education leadership from Capella University and her post-doctorate certificate in applied behavior analysis from Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Thiam was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan in 2020 as the first African American woman to serve in the Maryland General Assembly in the Republican Caucus. She served as a state delegate in legislative district 2B from October 2020-November 2022. Dr. Thiam worked diligently on the judiciary committee and was the deputy minority whip. Though she ran a vigorous campaign to keep the seat as the state delegate in 2022, she didn’t win but continues to remain active in politics and in her community.”
Mr. Myrick and Dr. Thiam shared their plan to fix Maryland by:
- Reducing taxes
- Eliminating burdensome regulations
- Creating a thriving business environment that allows businesses to grow and attracts businesses and jobs to Maryland
- Redesigning the education system to better serve our children and our future
- Coordinating with federal, state and local law enforcement to address the safety concerns of citizens and minimize criminal activity across the state
