Happy New Year 2019 !

Happy New Year !

Wishing you, your family and friends a safe and joyful New Year!

On Monday, January 7th a full MCGOP newsletter will be sent out, but I wanted to wish all a Happy New Year today.  Also, I wanted to share three important items regarding serving on County Commissions and Committees, a quick update on the 2019 MCGOP Convention, and a reminder about the deadline to be considered by MCGOP for the County Board of Elections.

County Committees and Commissions

This Friday -- January 4th -- is the deadline to apply to serve on one of two important Montgomery County Committees, the County Board of Appeals.  February 6th is the deadline to apply to serve on the County's Public Election Fund (PEF) Committee. These are important County Committees and both are seeking applications from Republicans to serve.

The principal jurisdiction of the County Board of Appeals is to consider variances, special exceptions and conditional uses under the Zoning Ordinances.  The
Board normally holds weekly hearings all day Wednesday and work sessions every other week. Members are expected to prepare for the hearings by reading the cases to be heard and to share the workload of drafting and editing opinions or to follow-up on investigations on specific cases. Members work approximately 15-25 hours a week and compensation is provided to those serving on the Board.

The PEF Committee recommends to the County Council an annual funding amount for the Public Election Fund.  In 2018, we had two Republican candidates for local office qualify for PEF matching funds which resulted in more campaign funds for Republican candidates running for local office than was previously possible.  Those serving on the PEF Committee serve for a four-year term and generally their meetings occur in the late fall and winter.  The PEF Committee does not provide compensation for those who serve on this committee.

For more information about how to apply to serve on the County Board of Appeals or the Public Election Fund Committee Click HereThe deadline to apply is Friday, January 4th, 2019 for the County Board of Appeals!  Please consider serving on these and other important County Committees and Commissions.  We need Republicans to serve on these and other County Committees and Commissions!

2019 MCGOP Convention

I am very pleased to announce that Republican National Committeeman David Bossie will be our Breakfast speaker at the MCGOP's 2019 Convention!  We have a terrific lineup of speakers for the 2019 Convention as well as afternoon training sessions on Saturday, February 23rd. On the evening before -- Friday, February 22nd -- there will be a by invitation thank you event for our volunteers as well as hospitality suite events that all are welcome to attend.   As a reminder, the Early Bird convention pricing ends on January 18, 2019; make sure to purchase your tickets soon! Deadline To Be Considered for County Board of Elections

The Montgomery County Republican Party will provide Governor Hogan with a list of recommended members for potential appointment to the 2019-2022 County Board of Elections.  If you are interested in serving, please apply by 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 12.  To apply, please submit a cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications with your resume to MCGOP Secretary Lori Jaffe.  The County Party will review applications, and those selected from the applicant pool to be interviewed will receive a specific invitation to meet with the County Party on Saturday, January 19 between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
Maryland election law requires the Governor to ask county central committees representing the majority party and the principal minority party to submit a list of at least four eligible individuals from which the Governor may make appointments to serve on the County's local board. Montgomery County's Board of Elections consists of five regular members and two substitute members.  The 4-year term for new regular and substitute Election Board members begins on the first Monday in June, 2019.  For more information regarding the duties of Election Board members, please refer to the Maryland Election Law Title 2, Subtitle 2 on "Local Boards" § 201 to 207  Click Here.
