Border Czar Tom Homan with President-Elect Donald Trump
By Lori Jaffe
Tom Homan, Former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been named Border Czar by President-Elect Donald Trump. This has prompted the Left to say that Homan will separate families. Joy Reid chastised (7:05) Latino men for voting for Trump. “So, you own everything that happens to your mixed status families, and to your wives, sisters, and abuelas, from here on in.” So, is Tom Homan just a racist white guy? Or is there something else that motivates him to secure the border?
The Washington Examiner reports, “In an appearance on Fox and Friends on Monday, Homan explained his focus will be on stopping crime in sanctuary cities, even if Democratic governors don’t support his agenda.
‘Well, a suggestion: If you are not going to help us, get the h*ll out of the way ’cause we’re gonna do it. So, if we can’t get assistance in New York City, we may have to double the agents we send in New York City. We are going to do the job,’ Homan said. ‘Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals.’
Homan acknowledged that immigrants are ‘God-fearing family people’ and expressed his commitment to protect them from criminals and the Salvadorian gang MS-13.
‘Let us protect the immigrant community. Who is the victim of MS-13 crime? The immigrant community,’ Homan said. ‘So, you know, if sanctuary cities don’t want to help us, get out of the way because we’re coming.’”
According to the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center (MCAC) MS-13 is active in Montgomery County. “MS-13 members are required to commit acts of violence, both to maintain membership and discipline within the gang and against rival gangs. One of the principal rules of MS-13 is that its members must attack and kill rivals, known as “chavalas,” whenever possible. Participation in criminal activity by a member, particularly in violent acts directed at rival gangs or as directed by gang leadership, increases the respect accorded to that member, resulting in that member maintaining or increasing his position in the gang and opens the door to promotion to a leadership position.”
In December 2023, MCAC reported, "The gang is also recruiting in area schools." “The mother of Alexandra Reyes, a teenager from Montgomery County murdered by the gang, had this warning. ‘In their schools, check their friends because they’re inside.’ Reyes’ mother said. ‘She was so sweet. She trusted in everyone and that, that was her problem.’
Our border policy invites many children to embark on a perilous journey. From October 2023 to September 2024, 735 unaccompanied children have been released to sponsors in Montgomery County. Our county had the second highest number, behind Prince George’s County, which had 1095. These children survived their ordeal. But many children do not.
In 2019, Homan responded to fierce questioning by Congressional Democrats, (2:47) “I’ve served my country for 34 years, and yes, I held a 5 year old boy in my arms in the back of that tractor trailer. I knelt down beside him and said a prayer for him because I knew what the last 30 minutes of his life were like and I had a 5 year old son at the time. What I’ve been trying to do my 34 years serving my nation is to save lives. So, for you to sit there and insult my integrity in my love for my country and for children, that’s why this whole thing needs to be fixed.”
Director Homan told the same riveting story at the MCGOP 2024 Spring Convention. His story brought us to tears. We believe that our new Border Czar is being truthful when he explains why he is driven to secure the border and stop the madness. He’s doing it for our families. He’s doing it for our children.
