Impeachment -- or Dog and Pony Show?
By Patricia Fenati
I am standing outside the arena where the National Dog and Pony Show is taking place behind closed doors. There are no reporters allowed in the arena, nor is the public invited. Only judges and specific animals are invited, without any handlers. We hear from different judges as they leave each event, who in turn relate different outcomes of the event.
Does this sound familiar? Unfortunately, in the sacred Halls of Congress these days, the mock impeachment hearing is this type of a dog and pony show.
This entire event is taking place behind closed doors in a secure area of the basement of the US Capitol. It is happening this way in order to “prevent witnesses from coordinating their testimony.” Although the Left is calling witnesses who they believe will enhance their case and who, they believe, have important information detrimental to the president, Republicans are not allowed to call witnesses.
In Article 1, Section 2, Clause 5 of The Constitution it says:
“5: The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the Sole Power of Impeachment.”
Note, it does NOT say that the PARTY in opposition to the president shall have the Sole Power of Impeachment! To evoke the powers of impeachment according to the Constitution, a resolution should be brought to the full house on whether to hold hearings to impeach. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not bring an impeachment resolution before the House. She is protecting her party members, who are in competitive races in conservative districts, from having to vote for impeachment … the concern is that this vote might hurt these members’ re-election chances.
She gives no timeline for the end of this charade, because she says that “the timeline will depend on the truth line, and that’s what we’re looking for.”
The Truth Line?
The end of this charade depends on a TRUTH LINE established by the Left?
What does Truth mean to the Left?
After all, former Vice President Joe Biden recently stated that “We choose Truth over Facts.” And Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is even more incoherent. “There's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually and semantically correct than about being morally right,” @AOC says in response to criticism that she’s made factual errors.
So, it appears that the “Left’s Truth” is the only truth, even when contradicted by pesky facts that get in the way. Truth seems only to be the accounts that agree with their original premise, which has maintained ever since January of 2017 … that the president is guilty of something.
And the timeline to carry on this simulation of impeachment will be just long enough to keep the narrative alive during the 2020 election season so that the press has something negative to report and can continue to ignore the accomplishments of this presidency.
The Constitution, in Article II, Section 4 specifically states that the president “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
However, Representative Al Green from Texas says that the president “Need not be charged with any offense to be impeached.” Rep. Green also provides the real reason for this chicanery when he says, "I'm concerned if we don't impeach this president, he will get re-elected."
Factually … I am not standing outside an arena. I am just an ordinary citizen trying to make sense of what is happening, but that is difficult. In the end, the logic of all this sounds like a conversation with Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
“I know what you're thinking about,” said Tweedledum; “ ‘but it isn't so, no-how.' 'Contrariwise,' continued Tweedledee, 'if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic.'”
But on the contrary, Capitol Hill “ain’t” Wonderland!
Is it?
