Our Montgomery County community -- like the nation and countries worldwide -- has been affected by the COVID-19 virus. Yesterday, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan issued state-wide orders to deal with this crisis (click here to see the announcement). Among other actions, Governor Hogan called for the cancellation of large public meetings. The Montgomery County Executive, working with the County Council and School board issued Montgomery County-specific orders including the closure of all schools effective Monday, March 16 (click here for more about Montgomery County-specific measures).
Here are the steps the Montgomery County Republican Party — MCGOP — is taking:
The MCGOP Convention scheduled for March 28 has been cancelled. We hope to make other similar event arrangements later in the year depending on circumstances of course. If you have already made and paid for meal tickets, program ads, sponsorships or other Convention-related expenses you will be reimbursed. Our very kind speakers have been notified with our sincere thanks.
The Saturday "open house" hours at MCGOP headquarters as well as other meetings and activities at our Rockville offices will be cancelled through the end of March. The March MCGOP Executive Committee meeting will be via teleconference for MCGOP Central Committee members, this will not be a general public call-in.
Many Republican clubs and events have been affected – please contact the sponsors of your local event to see it there is any change that will affect you. Check our MCGOP Event page Click Here to identify who is the point person for each specific event and email or make other contact with them. As we learn of cancellations for events posted on the MCGOP's website; they will be marked CANCELLED but for true up to date information, please contact the event sponsor.
Our commitment is to keep the community safe and protected until this health emergency subsides. Together we will soon return to the vibrant, active community we love.
Alexander Bush, Esq.
