IF THE COUNTY COUNCIL PASSES ZTA 25-02 THIS JULY TO REZONE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD,

THIS COULD BE BUILT NEXT TO YOUR HOME AND YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO STOP IT

Please join our live protest at Massachusetts Ave. and Jamestown Rd.

on Monday, July 7th  from 4:30 pm-6:00 pm.

Tell your friends to join us.

Councilmembers say they’ll reconsider if they hear from residents, but time is short.

PLEASE CONTACT COUNCILMEMBERS TODAYURGE THEM TO VOTE NO TO ZTA 25-02. (See contact information below.)

This bill will allow developers to replace single family homes with duplexes, triplexes, quadplexes, and “small” apartment buildings up to 40 feet tall, like in the picture, starting on Massachusetts Ave. but allowed to reach into the neighborhood by joining adjacent lots.[1]

[1] Zoning Text Amendment 25-02 in the More Housing N.O.W. bill pending before the Council.

The requirement for off-street parking is minimal = more cars on already crowded streets, blocked access for emergency vehicles, more traffic v. school-walkers; overburdened schools, water & sewer, trees cut down

The requirement for Affordable Units is zero for jumbo duplexes, just one for larger buildings.

Who benefits? Developers, and Councilmembers who receive campaign contributions if they vote yes.

Instead of disrupting established neighborhoods, Council should focus on the GEICO redevelopment site, where hundreds of units including affordable ones can be built.

The main sponsors are Councilmembers Andrew Friedson (ours) and Natali Fani-Gonzalez.

Will Jawando, Kristin Mink, Laurie-Anne Sayles and others have indicated their willingness to reconsider their support for this bill if constituents express their opposition to it.

In your message you don’t have to go into a lot of detail—they’re simply gauging public sentiment for and against.
