America Is Our Only Hope

By Dennis Brent Melby

“Don’t let America turn out like our country back home.” That’s what they all said – and they should know. Last Thursday in Gaithersburg I spoke to a packed meeting of the Maryland Hispanic Committee along with our State GOP Chair Nicole Harris, and it was an amazing and eye-opening experience.

All the speakers were immigrants, here of course legally, all naturalized US citizens. They came from all over, Ghana in Africa, Venezuela, Nicaragua where Committee Chair Alfonso Talavera was a freedom fighter, and El Salvador in Latin America, Iran, now at war with its own citizens and America, even Canada and Britain, rapidly descending into socialism and group think. All were happy they’d been welcomed into this country, all are great Republicans and all desperate to see a halt to our slide into socialism, single party government, social decay, lawlessness and public violence.

Yes, they laughingly showed their “papers” some were so proud they’ve actually had their citizenship papers laminated!  None were fearful of ICE the way the far left would have you believe, and to a man and woman they were working hard to make sure the moderate and conservative values of the Republican (and the old Democrat) Parties were authored, acted on and maintained against the failing far left policies seen in so many other failing states.

Sully Says - Protect Fabric of Our Neighborhoods

Recently the County Council approved Zoning Text amendment 25-2 which will allow developers to build multi-family housing in established single family neighborhoods by right.

This will mean more traffic and parking issues, growing pressure on local infrastructure and changes to established single family neighborhoods where many families have invested their futures.

I believe that growth must be responsible, transparent, and shaped by the people who live in the community.

Unfortunately, other District 1 candidates Drew Morrison, Debbie Spielberg, and Julie Yang support ZTA 25-2.

I believe that the fabric of our neighborhoods are worth protecting and that the voices of the residents that have invested in their homes matter.

Let’s bring common sense and accountability back to Montgomery County.

Montgomery County Budget Crisis: Where to Cut to Balance the Books

A Practical Guide to Closing the $854 Million Six-Year Structural Gap

Executive Summary

Montgomery County faces an $854 million revenue shortfall over six years while compensation costs at County Government and MCPS accelerate to 7-10% annual growth—three to four times the historic 2.5% average[1][2][3]. This two-page analysis identifies specific areas where cuts can close the structural gap without touching core services like 911, police, fire/rescue, roads, and trash collection.

Key Finding: Modest restraint in compensation growth combined with targeted cuts to non-core programs, NGO grants, and administrative overhead can generate $100-150 million per year in recurring savings—enough to balance the budget without tax increases.
