Chery Riley is a native of Montgomery County and a strong voice of opposition to Representative Jamie Raskin, her opponent for Maryland’s District Eight seat in Congress. No stranger to politics, Cheryl ran for the Montgomery County Council in 2022. And though she didn’t win that race, she came out with a winning attitude of staying the course to fight the Democrat’s current monopoly in MOCO and the state of Maryland. Cheryl currently owns a public relations practice and resides in Bethesda. Below she answers questions in her own words about her compelling reasons to run and what her priorities would be as a member of Congress.
Q: What are the top three things that you believe distinguish your political beliefs from those of Jamie Raskin?
I am Pro America, Pro Constitution, Pro Rule of Law
Q: Jamie has a powerful progressive base in Takoma Park and other parts of District Eight, as well as support from politicians, lobbyists, and activists across the country. What message do you want to share with voters that will make them consider you to be a serious contender?
Jamie has made a name for himself by his Marxist ideologies, so he aligns with those who are in positions of power that share the same Communist views that have no place in the USA, and have harmed everyday citizens. In true radical Marxist form, Jamie has shown a lack of transparency, and used “omission” about his actions and their true nature. I want to show the constituents of District 8, and the country what an honest, common sense, solutions-based representative takes an oath to do, which is to represent the people and listen to their concerns to improve their quality of life in every aspect. Unlike Mr. Raskin, I am running to truly help improve and restore our county, and to be a voice for the people. I am one of the people who grew up in the county I love, and would ensure the people of District 8 that they are my top priority. I am not, nor will I ever sell out or be bought to follow anti-American agendas.
Q: Can you provide some clear examples of legislation that he’s passed which you believe have hurt the country and/or his constituents in the Eighth District?
He’s really never proposed, nor had legislation pass, which is telling. He was the architect of the well-known “rainwater tax” which was nothing more than an unnecessary grab to raise taxes. He has spent the majority of his career pushing his Marxists ideologies, and votes against America, for Wars, and for legislation that would continue to chip away at our constitutional rights, and for ultimate control.
Q: What would your top priorities be as Maryland’s new Congresswoman from District Eight?
Jamie has ignored District 8 for four terms. He has focused on his personal gain. I have a genuine desire to restore everything that has been decimated in District 8 on every level, starting with the top priority of safety. We have sanctuary status, open borders that Raskin has championed with no concern for the safety of the constituents, and we have seen the horrific aftermath of his promoting anyone entering our county, including known terrorists, known criminals, and innocent, helpless women and children being exploited, used for human trafficking being brought in who have been abused, harmed and now used by the cartels. I am for dealing with a crisis immediately, which includes first and foremost the safety of the people. Closing the border, ending sanctuary status/removing funding, removing restrictions placed on law enforcement to restore law and order, to restore the laws that Raskin and county leaders have blatantly ignored, and to end funding to NGOs who help facilitate the criminal influx. We have many crises, so I will be focused on implanting solutions that will show results quickly and give residents proof they finally have a genuine, compassionate, transparent champion whose focus is on improving their quality of life.
Q: Other than casting a ballot, how can voters support your candidacy?
The support I receive daily via phone calls, messages, and in-person from voters has been incredible. I am so grateful. I refuse to take any dirty money from any organization expecting special favors, so my campaign, unlike the Dem candidates, is truly grassroots driven. Opening a letter from a supporter with a $10.00 donation is the most humbling experience as I know everyone is struggling financially. I appreciate any offers to volunteer to knock on doors, host events and of course any donations are helpful as it allows me to create signs, palm cards, materials. I hear from supporters who report they’re telling family and friends about me, which is also so appreciated.
