STILL ONE AMERICA
It's been a generation since that crisp Autumn day in 2001 when our city and our nation stood still as unbelievable violence visited our land. September 11, 2001. DC, Pennsylvania and New York City. One great generation remembers it only in stories and video, others remember it as if it were yesterday, yet others recall wanting to come to this country as a beacon of freedom and democracy in a world gone mad.
- We remember and honor those we lost, both in the attack and in the years after defending this nation from threats overseas.
- We remember our Montgomery County Congresswoman Connie Morella, standing next to the Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid leading the Congress in song on the steps of the US Capitol - even though it was under threat at that time.
- We remember all the leaders, Democrat and Republican, Man and Woman, Black and White, all religions united in their faith in our Country.
- We remember the President urging Americans not to go after our US Muslim brothers and sisters
- ...and finally we remember pulling together after that fateful day.
We did pull together because we're more alike than not - and we push back against all the internal and outside forces always trying to tear us apart.
Yet still we're troubled, and parts of the world are in turmoil. In less than a month Israel will remember the anniversary of a horrible bloodbath they thought would never happen again. There's pain, anguish and death in Gaza as the Israelis search for hostages and try to find the perpetrators of 10/7.
Massive bloodshed and death in Ukraine, bloodshed in Russia, in Afghanistan, Africa and Central America. Hatred and violence breed hatred and violence. We will not go down that road.
Although our politics is contentious at times we must push back when it feels like hatred. Don't mistake political disagreements for hate. All families disagree at times, yet we all want this nation to succeed - and I pledge to you that we, as Americans, will prevail in this great exercise in democracy. We simply must.
Let's go America, let's make things better to honor those whom we remember for their sacrifices.
God bless America.
