There is always a limited window allowed for submitting testimony to a committee considering a bill.
Crossover Day was last week so this is a Senate Bill being considered in the House.
The hearing on this bill is scheduled to occur on Wednesday April 1st.
Testimony must be submitted on Monday March 30th.
Important Note: One can simply leave blank testimony after indicating a position on a bill. See instructions here:
Members are encouraged to submit written testimony on Monday opposing SB0255 -- Voting Rights Act of 2026 -- Counties and Municipal Corporations.
SB0255 passed the Senate (30-15) and is currently in the House, with a hearing in the Government, Labor and Elections (GLE) Committee on Wednesday, April 1st at 1 p.m.
The companion bill, HB0350, remains in committee with no report issued yet but we must remain vigilant.
If passed, SB0255 could be used to force counties and municipalities to adopt ranked choice voting, approval voting, or some other strange form of voting. Defending their existing voting systems in court will be cost prohibitive for many smaller municipalities.
MFRW’s written testimony to the Senate EEE Committee can be found HERE. The MFRW will submit similar testimony to the GLE Committee on Monday.
The witness list from the Senate hearing was dominated by an overwhelming number of Far-Left groups in favor of passage. We need to counter those efforts with our own written testimony in opposition.

- Ranked Choice Voting requires the voter to make multiple choices without knowing who the top candidates will be in the second or third rounds.
- It treats voters unequally. If no one receives 50% of the vote in the first round, the lowest scoring candidate is deleted, and the second choice of those voters is counted in a second round. Voters who chose the highest vote getter in the first round are denied a vote in later rounds.
- Those who votes are discarded after the first round, get a second vote with their second choice. This allows a less favored candidate to move ahead of the first-round winner. The result is the election of a least favored candidate.
- Proponents like to call this an “instant run-off”, but it is not. It is a “blind run-off” because voters make their choices without knowing who the top voted candidate will be in each round. If a run-off election is desired it should be a real run-off election where every voter is treated the same and voters know the status of each candidate before they vote.
- Approval Voting is a joke. You vote for as many candidates as you like for that one office and the candidate that receives the most votes wins.
