TAKING PARENTS' RIGHTS

Not sure if you heard about the Parents' Rights rally last Tuesday at the Montgomery County Council building in Rockville, Maryland.

One Councilmember introduced a resolution to support an Amendment to the Maryland Constitution entitled the “Reproductive Freedom Act,” which is on the November ballot as Question #1. There were more protestors against the resolution and in support of Parent Rights than abortion rights.

As a matter of fact the Amendment doesn't mention Women or Abortion at all! It's just a way some Democrat politicians decided to get lots of people to vote.

The issue with the amendment is that it is not about abortion. Abortion has been legal in Maryland since 1992 so there is really no need for this amendment.  The way this amendment is written it allows minor children to make decisions about their reproductive health without input from the parents. The Democrat in this video explains it ~ 1 min mark

 The amendment text:

“That every person, as a central component of an individual's rights to liberty and equality, has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including but not limited to the ability to make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue, or end one's own pregnancy. The state may not, directly or indirectly, deny, burden, or abridge the right unless justified by a compelling state interest achieved by the least restrictive means.”

The issue is the use of “every person” which does not exclude minors.  Sen Justin Ready asked that verbiage be added to exclude minors however his request was denied. If they had said “adult” I wouldn't be writing this.

Pro-choice and pro-life Republicans agree: this is not an amendment regarding abortion, it is an amendment that will take away a parent's right to control the gender reassignment decisions of a minor child.

Does this make sense to you?
