California added only 5,400 private-sector jobs in past 18 months

Lee Ohanian writes about California’s dismal private-sector job growth, where only 5,400 private sector jobs have been added between January 2022 and June 2024. Dragged down by corporate headquarters relocations and continued tech firm job cuts, California’s jobs picture, Ohanian writes, has its only bright spot in the public sector, which added more than 150,000 positions during the same period. He cites California’s poor record on taxation and cost of doing business as reasons for the lackluster performance.

Chevron, formerly known as Standard Oil of California and still the state's major oil producer and refiner, is marking the 145th anniversary of its founding in the state by abandoning it and moving to Houston, Texas.

In an interview with The Daily Signal, renowned historian Victor Davis Hanson discusses the updated edition of his bestselling book, “The Case for Trump.” Months before the 2024 presidential election, Hanson offers fresh insights into the remarkable political comeback of Donald Trump.

The book’s new introduction delves into the final days of Trump’s presidency through late spring 2024, chronicling the unprecedented challenges Trump has faced and his resilience since leaving the White House. Hanson covers recent events—from legal battles to media controversies—and their impact on Trump’s political standing.

“It was really the most remarkable comeback in American political history, even more impressive than Richard Nixon’s phoenix-like rise after losing the gubernatorial election to Pat Brown in 1962,” Hanson says.

Our conversation explores the miscalculations of Trump’s opponents, his unfair treatment at the hands of rogue prosecutors, and the ever-changing dynamics shaping the presidential race. Plus, Hanson shares his perspective on how best to counter Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Here are three. The US leads in gas production measures in one trillion cubic feet of natural gas or EJ energy joules. The second chart is worldwide energy production also in EJ’s (one EJ is equivalent to a quadrillion BTUs or one trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Note there is NO transition to wind, solar, hydro and other renewables and all renewables are 50/625 quadrillion BTUs. And third, US natural gas saved Europe given the huge decline in Russian gas exports to Europe.

Governor Walz has embraced California's clean-car rules, which would eventually lead to a full ban on gas cars. In 2022, his climate change scheme called for increasing the share of electric cars on Minnesota roads to 20% by 2030, from the current 1%. He has also proposed completely banning liquid transportation fuels by 2050
