California Dreamin

California gets two things right. They caved on racial preferences and on a crime prevention measure. Here are the two stories. From Tom Moore’s Prosperity website.

In California Common Sense Makes Rare Appearance

July 8, 2024

Thank goodness for citizen empowerment in California. California voters have wisely voted twice against racial or sexual preferences in public hiring, education, and contracting – most recently in 2020 when 58% of voters said, hell no!

But progressives keep trying to bring them back in sneaky ways. Earlier this year, they pushed an amendment to allow waivers for specific minority groups if academics say they’ve been victimized. (Good news: the amendment stalled because many leaders feared that this would only drive-up conservative turnout and doom progressives up and down the ballot this November.

Progressives also retreated on a plan to sabotage a November ballot measure to effectively repeal Proposition 47 – a 2014 measure that reduced many theft and drug crimes to misdemeanors and ended prosecutions of shoplifting below $950 per incident.

The result has been an explosion of theft, especially in retail stores.

A public outcry over this “get out of jail free” scheme has dissuaded Governor Gavin Newsom and his chums from moving forward. Polls show the End Prop 47 effort will now pass easily.

Illegal Aliens Don’t Commit Crime

Under Joe Biden, we’ve seen illegal aliens flood across America’s borders and bring a surge in violent crime with them.

Here's a partial list from this week:

New York police arrested a 25-year-old man from Ecuador, Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, for raping a 13-year-old girl in a park in Queens while wielding a machete.
Victor Martinez Hernandez, a 23-year-old citizen of El Salvador, was arrested for the murder of Rachel Morin, the 37-year-old mother of five.
In Houston, police arrested two illegals from Venezuela, Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, who face capital murder charges for strangling a 12-year-old girl and dumping her body in a creek.
Police in Missouri arrested five Mexican and Honduran nationals after they kidnapped a 14-year-old girl in Indiana.

The drive-by Media is what Rush called them. A good example of just such recklessness is this insulting WSJ headline about the passing of a very great American Jim Inhofe.

Tom Moore said this: “Inhofe for years was indeed one of the lone voices of sanity when it came to combatting with science the climate change religion. For that, he was a hero and he's been proven correct. Here is one of our favorite nuggets of wisdom on the Senate floor from the late Oklahoma Senator: Climate is changing and climate has always changed and always will. There is archaeological evidence of that and historic evidence of that. It will always change. The hoax is that there are some people who are so arrogant to think that they are so powerful they can change climate. Man doesn't change climate.

Chicago Mayor Blames Richard Nixon for July 4 Weekend Shooting Spree – Seriously!

Wit and wisdom from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, on the more than 100 people shot in his city over the holiday weekend:

Black death has unfortunately been accepted in this country for a very long time. We had a chance 60 years ago to get at the root causes. And people mocked President Johnson, and we ended up with Richard Nixon. I'm going to work hard every day to transform this city. That's what it takes to build a better, stronger, safer Chicago.

Greg Price says: Um, Mr. Mayor, the "root cause" of the epidemic of crime in "progressive" cities is "progressive" soft-on-crime mayors – like you. If you want to stop the crime, we suggest you put in a call to Rudy Giuliani.
