Question A Passed by the voters about 2 to 1!
By Lori Jaffe
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich has fooled many MoCo residents for 35 years. In 2026, he wants to run for an additional four-year term. It was this tenacity that helped him win a Democrat primary run off in 2022 by just 35 votes. Tomorrow is the last day to Vote FOR Question A to limit the County Executive position to Two Consecutive Terms. During this magician's time on the public stage, many things have vanished before our eyes. Some are listed below.
Police Officers – Marc Elrich sought to cut back funding for our police department. With many police officers leaving due to low morale and low pay, our county has seen an increase in crime. Even a once very safe place like Montgomery Mall has seen a rise in assaults.
Affordable Housing – MoCo has had an affordable housing problem for many years. Making matters worse, Elrich’s 2019 Executive Order promised County benefits, regardless of citizenship. Naturally, this attracts many low-income immigrants and their families to our area. And who can blame them? But this puts an additional strain on the availability of affordable housing.
In 2022, Georgetown University’s Collaborative on Global Children’s Issues wrote: “Montgomery County, Maryland has continued to be a primary destination for migrant and asylum-seeking children, youth, and families. Between 2014 and 2021, Montgomery was the eleventh highest receiving county in the nation for unaccompanied migrant children seeking to reunify with family members or other sponsors. More than 1,000 unaccompanied minors arrived in our county between January and August 2021, and we’ve welcomed at least 500 minors since the beginning of fiscal year 2022. In addition, an unknown number of children continue to arrive with parents or other caregivers. While there is no mechanism to track the overall number of migrants and asylum-seekers arriving in each state or county, we can feel the impact on our public schools and community-based services.”
Student Resource Officers - Elrich has removed the Student Resource Officers from our schools, making our children even more vulnerable to threats.
Parental Authority - He has (1:49) supported the taking away of parental authority over what can be taught to our children.
MoCo’s Tax Base - According to Montgomery Perspective, our county has experienced taxpayer flight for many years. “More taxpayers have been leaving Montgomery County than entering it for a long time. The taxpayers who are coming in make less money than the ones who are leaving.”
Again making matters worse, Marc Elrich has failed to follow the Council’s own adopted fiscal policy and has caused the county to face a structural deficit. He followed the Left’s policies without doing his due diligence to confirm that those policies would benefit the taxpayers and would be within our ability to support them financially. He sought to impose additional taxes on us to support his misguided vision.
Top Ranked Schools – One of our magician’s tricks is to allude to the past, pretending it is the present-day state of Montgomery County. “Our Montgomery County public schools are some of the best in the nation and an important reason why people want to live here.” What he doesn’t say is that they used to be at the top. Now our top schools aren’t even in the top one hundred in the nation.
Fairness - Elrich has promoted an initiative that favored his wealthy supporters while forcing the rest of us to pay for it. Even some of his supporters are getting into the act by making Term Limits signs disappear!
But more of us are catching onto his tricks. We now realize that Marc Elrich is unfit for the position of County Executive. Tomorrow is our last chance to Vote FOR Question A. Let’s make his ability to run for that position vanish.
