WE DODGED A BULLET!

by Dennis Brent Melby

What a wake up call.

Francesca Hong for Governor of Wisconsin - Our RevolutionLast Tuesday many folks believed we dodged a bullet with the tight race between democrat socialist (and media favorite) Francesca Hong (not crazy about white people or Thanksgiving) and David Crowley, the eventual winner in Wisconsin.

Even the Democrats got afraid that the socialists would ruin their chances of winning after Abdulrahman El-Sayed (also heavily favored to win) squeezed by in Michigan - so in Wisconsin they backed another different candidate who barely squeaked out a win over Hong,

Right now a lot of the Democrats are rethinking their support of the extreme far left, but that's only temporary because they're still winning in a number of states. Close to home, that's also going to be our choice come November, we have to choose wisely.

WE HAVE A CHOICE BETWEEN A BLACK MAN AND A BLACK WOMAN

For Montgomery County Executive we have a choice between a Socialist Democrat and a moderate Republican. We have a choice between a black man or a black woman. We have a choice between a tax and spend, defund the police radical who offers a vision of a racially biased county versus a woman who's a former Democrat turned Republican, legal immigrant from Trinidad and US citizen, who’s raising a special needs son, working as a CPA , education advocate and leading the county Taxpayers League. Choose wisely.

Our local Democrats, our local press, our local media are all heavily left wing, and pulling for candidates on the left to prosper. Choose wisely. Since our County’s registration skews heavily Democrat, those entrenched in power know “The Trump Card” is their Ace in the hole. (Even if you’re running for dog catcher, they ask you about Trump.) Don’t fall into that trap. Choose wisely.

I wish I had a dime for every time that I’ve heard a career politician say, “When I’m elected, the Government will bring jobs to Montgomery County.”

That type of statement from the political elite shows a basic misunderstanding of how jobs are actually created.

“Government doesn’t create jobs -  Businesses do.”

BALANCING INPUT

AND OUTCOME

In an editorial, the Wall Street Journal noted that former Attorney General Eric Holder of Takoma Park, Montgomery County’s ultra-liberal enclave, had been spearheading efforts to get state courts to redraw election maps he finds unfair.

“Unfair” by his definition is when Democrats win fewer congressional seats than their percentage of the statewide popular vote. Curiously, it’s a definition that was originally applied by the New York Times following the 2012 Maryland elections, the first to reflect a Democratic gerrymander which still applies to the state.

The Times observed back then that “In Maryland, Republicans won 35% of the votes but just 13% of the seats.” So, surely, Mr. Holder must have put Maryland high on his list of offenders to be challenged in court. But actually, it was not on his list at all, nor was any other state where Democrats benefited from gerrymandering. How coincidental.

2030 will be the occasion for the next decennial census which in turn will be the basis for redistricting and, as such, will influence elections for a decade to come.

It has been proposed that redistricting be done by an independent, non-partisan commission but Democrats won’t commit. After all, who knows who might win how many seats in such a scenario.
