President-Elect Donald Trump is on his way to becoming the 47th  U.S. President. At the 2024 Republican National Convention, his granddaughter Kai said  “A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell. And he’s still standing.” “The media makes my grandpa seem like a different person, but I know him for who he is. He’s very caring and loving. He truly wants the best for this country. And he will fight every single day to make America great again.” So, what will he face?

How Biden Screwed the Steelworkers  1/3/2025

Japan, one of our closest allies, wanted the deal. So did Pittsburgh steelworkers and members of the president's cabinet. So why did he block it?

By Ethan Dodd

Back in April, when President Joe Biden was still running for reelection, he told a gathering of steelworkers in Pittsburgh that “I have your back.” On Friday afternoon, just three weeks before leaving office, he stuck a knife in their backs.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

The Maryland General Assembly passes thousands of bills every year that impact our daily  lives. Each session is only 90 days; this year it begins on Wednesday, January 8, and ends on Monday, April 7.

In recent years, the Assembly has been passing increasingly Left-leaning bills. This unfortunate situation arises from the fact that the Democrats have a supermajority in the Assembly: Out of 47 Senate members, only 13 are Republicans; out of 141 House members, only 39 are Republicans. Therefore, even when we had a Republican in the Governor’s seat, the Assembly could override his vetoes. That is how we became a Sanctuary State for illegal immigrants a few years ago.

In order to prevent the worst legislation from passing (and help positive bills pass), we must advocate while the bills are still being heard in their respective committees. That is how, for example, we have managed to keep the absurd ranked choice voting bills from becoming law.

Please join us in this advocacy work! The best way to do so is to subscribe to MFRW Legislative Chair Ella Ennis’s email list ([email protected]) and to answer our calls to testify and write letters for and against upcoming bills. We will help you! For more information, please contact Legislative Chair Amy Waychoff at [email protected].

ALL ABOARD!

By Lori Jaffe

On November 5, 2024, our country decided that they had seen enough of the Left’s policies, and they voted to return to normalcy. After the election results came in, President-Elect Donald Trump called for all Americans to come together. “This will forever be remembered as the day the American people regained control of their country.” “It was a historic realignment uniting citizens of all backgrounds around a common core of common sense.” As we get ready to start a new year, we see many on the Left appear to be moving toward Trump. Some appear to be embracing normalcy while others want to remain relevant. The Left is not disputing his win as he won both the electoral college and the popular vote.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

NEW YEAR - FRESH START

It’s a new year, it’s a fresh start. Let’s work with those Democrats who want to move ahead and try to solve our nation's problems we thought we were on track to solve. Yes, they’re out there, some in every level of society on the county level, on the school board and in the state government in Annapolis. Moderate, common-sense Democrats who want to move the ball forward. I know many. Unfortunately, I can’t name them here cause they’d be attacked by the radicals in their midst, and there are lots of them!

This past election has shown that many folks who identify as Democrats support normal, common-sense solutions. Heck, the two-term amendment to the MoCo Charter would not have gotten passed without overwhelming Democrat support.

When I met Senator John Thune, the new Senate majority leader in Potomac a few months ago I told him we had about 100,000 Republicans in Montgomery County! He was impressed. Of course, our problem is 500,000 folks here aren’t Republicans! That’s more voters in our county than in his entire state, but we MoCo Republicans do a lot, and we intend to do more.

We’re going to continue to make a difference.  We’re going to continue to work with everybody who’ll work with us to make things better, prices cheaper, taxes lower, education better, and the police force more capable of fighting crime and enhancing public safety.

As we leave 2024 we’re going to build on a surge of optimism, unite all the factions that folks try to use to divide us and strive to make 2025 the best year ever.

Tell me: Are you with us?

THE PASSING OF JIMMY CARTER

By Dennis Melby

Many of us who live in Montgomery County have worked at some point for the federal government. When I was younger I was detailed to work at the White House for several Commissions set up by President Jimmy Carter. The President passed over the weekend at the age of 100.  Although I was never able to bring myself to vote for him I admired him and knew that he always intended to do what he considered was right, honest and best on the world stage. He had a great marriage, the best intentions and (after he left office) a great career as a former President.

I was able to host Mrs. Carter in Bethesda for an event for Rockville's  former Chestnut Lodge psychiatric hospital where she helped us raise awareness of the problems of mental illness. They were both staunch supporters of helping people and families in need. I was able also to work with Gerald Ford, and I never told him I had worked under the man who defeated him...I thought they didn't like each other. I was wrong, they were great friends. Much like today Carter led to Reagan, and Biden has led back to Trump.

My condolences go out to the Carter family. I'm glad he and Rosalynn are reunited.

If you have any thoughts on Jimmy Carter let me know at [email protected]
