Melby Minute - It's Just Too Much

By Dennis Brent Melby

He was a brilliant psychiatrist, Medical Director of Chestnut Lodge, a Rockville psychiatric Hospital my colleagues and I had. He rebelled against our leadership and left - and was later killed by one of his patients whom he selflessly tried to help. He's the first person I personally knew who was murdered.

This week our world has seen such tragedy. Jews shot and killed at Bondi Beach in Australia - simply gathering to celebrate together for Hanukkah. Professors at prestigious universities gunned down with little reason, taking students with them. Rob Reiner, a Hollywood actor and director and his talented wife killed by their own son - a son they desperately wanted to help and would have given their own lives to protect. And countless others too numerous and too common for the media to highlight. Just too much tragedy.

There's no commonality to these murders. Strict gun control laws, high levels of psychiatric help, supportive communities...but it's like Cain and Abel all over again. Every generation for thousand of years has wanted it to stop, mothers mourned since time began, is it better now? All we can do is pray for them and their families, mourn their passing and remember their precious lives.

I stand with you in trying to discover the meaning in senseless tragedy - but promise you we'll persevere in trying to combat the senselessness of it all. Let's stand together (it's easier than standing apart). Try to protect our families, our communities and especially those who are lost. Winter may be here, but Spring is always not far away.

I stand with you. God bless them all.

Chairman's Message

Chairman Sullivan’s Last Message

As we wrap up another year, one thing is clear: the real strength of our County doesn’t come from politicians or bureaucrats, it comes from the people who live, work, and raise families here. It comes from hard-working families, small business owners, veterans, first responders, government workers and neighbors who look out for one another and believe in personal responsibility, freedom, and common sense.

All across our County, everyday people of all political parties are standing up and saying enough is enough. We must continue to push back when the County Executive and County Council continue their overreach and demand policies that actually make life better, not more expensive. These moments remind us that the power in this County still belongs to the people, not political insiders, the ones that play musical chairs but don’t support the hard working everyday citizens.

Melby Minute - Democratic Gender to be determined

Boys, Girls… or To Be Determined?

By Dennis Brent Melby

If you don’t know what sex you are, the Democrats want you as their leader.

To be appointed to the recent vacancy of the MoCo Democrats' Central Committee you must state whether you’re a female or you identify as something called "trans-gender" or "non-binary"! They have positions that can only be filled by specific sexes…or apparently no sex, but you must declare. If it weren’t against the US Constitution, they’d also have numbers reserved for skin color – or race if you prefer. They’ve already gotten rid of their very popular co-Vice Chair of the National Democratic Party, crazy left winger David Hogg just this way, by enforcing non-binary preferences for “gender diversity.” They apparently think their voters would choose wrongly without these restrictions. Republicans beg to differ.

To serve on, and be elected or appointed to the Republican Central Committee you simply must be a registered Republican voter in Montgomery County. We don’t ask your skin color, your gender, your age, your religion, your marital status, your orientation, your profession, your income or level of education.  We let the voters decide. And they do a darned good job.
