A Cheap Fake Abortion Amendment?
Maryland "Right to Reproductive Freedom" Amendment
In 2023, the Maryland General Assembly passed a law (SB 798) placing the Maryland Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment on the November 2024 ballot. This amendment to the Maryland Constitution would go much further than the 1991 state law that gives women an unlimited statutory right to abortion for any reason through birth.
Many Marylanders believe this is just an attempt to bring voters from the far-left to the polls, as a charade that abortion rights are threatened. But it can be used to further degrade the ability of parents and guardians to do what's best for their kids.
The proposed amendment says: “That every person, as a central component of an individual’s right to liberty and equality, has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including but not limited to the ability to make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue, or end one’s own pregnancy. The State may not, directly or indirectly, deny, burden, or abridge the right unless justified by a compelling state interest achieved by the least restrictive means.”

Rehoboth Beach has a great feel. Ocean City is a fun getaway, the Outer Banks, the Maryland mountains, lots of places call to us in the summer. Did you have a chance to get away? I hope so.
The summer is coming to a close and believe it or not after Labor Day is when people decide who to vote for, Congress, Senate and the White House. Important races and we take them all seriously.
But as summer closes we also get back to our regular lives. Let’s be safe out there! There are no more cops in the schools, shop at CVS and you see a lot of things locked up, most grocery stores now have security, and some check your bags. And if you follow the local news there’s an increase of violent crime on the streets. The media and the press are reporting it.
It shouldn’t be that way, you shouldn’t feel stupid paying for your own stuff while you watch other people walk out the store without paying. You shouldn’t be worried that your kids going to a football game at their high school are going to see a fight break out instead. And you shouldn’t be afraid that your daughter working as a cashier at a local store is gonna be robbed, or assaulted, or worse.
Crime and violence are on the rise and we need to stop it. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE. No more defund the police, let them know we back the blue. Stand up for what’s right. Respect the cops, the teachers and shopkeepers.
Stay safe MoCo.
Let me know if you think things are getting better or worse.

BEWARE OF SCAMS

By Lori Jaffe
Last week our County Executive sent out a message that started with, “County Executive Marc Elrich continues to remind residents about the latest financial scams targeting older adults and provides resources for County services to help if you or someone you know has been a victim.” In July, Montgomery Perspective reported, “Montgomery County Inspector General Megan Davey Limarzi has found ‘wasteful spending’ in (Montgomery County Public Schools) MCPS’s electric bus contract.” There are plenty of older MoCo taxpayers who feel scammed not only by this latest debacle but by the MoCo government’s waste and poor management over the years. How can we make our voices heard about the many MoCo government scams which end up impacting us financially?
