Okay, 2018 candidates, right now I’ll bet you’re feeling a lot like I did after I signed up to run for office in 1994 and was looking forward to some no-holds barred debates against my opponents. In fact, I had saved up some great one liners for former Del. Henry Heller, Len Teitelbaum and newcomer Andria Mandel. Del. Petzold had moved up to run for State Senate that year. (Remind me sometime to tell you a great Del. Petzold story).

When fellow Republican grassroots advocate Brigitta Mullican recently asked me if I knew anyone who wasn’t currently a candidate, who would be willing to give women advice about running for office at an upcoming event, I said I would be willing to do so. At that time, I did not intend to run for anything in 2018. In fact, I had reservations about re-entering potentially hostile territory, but I thought that my experience as a Democrat, independent and Republican candidate could be helpful for the women in our county.

Maryland Republican Party Chair Dirk Haire called upon Kathleen Matthews, Maryland Democratic Party Chair, to apologize to Maryland taxpayers for insulting them with her chicken-little scare tactics, “because hard-working Marylanders who struggle to pay bills deserve better than partisan political rhetoric.”
According to Democratic Comptroller Peter Franchot’s report, over two million Marylanders will receive a Federal tax cut that averages $1,741 annually. Every Maryland Democrat voted against the legislation.

Earlier this month, Brian Griffith broke the story in Red Maryland of “Democrats and Heroin Houses.” At issue is the favorable action of a Maryland State Senate Committee on legislation to allow so-called “Supervised Drug Consumption” facilities to “provide a place for the consumption of pre-obtained drugs, provide sterile needles, administer first aid as needed, and provide certain other services.”
The proposed law’s protections for “pre-obtained drugs” is worth further explanation. It protects the possession of illegal drugs from prosecution.

It’s October – the leaves are changing colors, and hopefully the weather will get cooler soon. You are 75 days away from Christmas; 82 days away from January 1, 2018, and 391 days from Election Day (Pls note: I’m writing this on October 11, 2017). So, what does this mean? First, you only have 74 shopping days left until Christmas. But more importantly, you have 82 days until January 1, 2018, the first day of another exciting election year.

President Donald Trump invited me and other businesses leaders to attend a session last week on the dangers of over-regulation and the damages that a clunky, convoluted system brings to small businesses across the country.
