DIAL BACK THE HATE
Other nations are watching us.
Last week started with an assassination attempt on the former President. Mid-week he was nominated to return to the White House by an overwhelmingly enthusiastic Republican Party. The end of the week saw the sitting President issue a written statement on social media that he was quitting the Presidential contest.
Other nations are watching us. Not all are our friends.
Here, national politics is local. Many of the folks who run the White House, Congress and the federal agencies live in Montgomery County, with their spouses and families. They’ve been lying to us. Our President, they said, was fit as a fiddle and behind closed doors he could run rings around anyone – sharp as a tack and hard to keep up with. They were lying to us.
When our honorable Congressman Jamie Raskin is fully behind you, you obviously really have to worry. And with a great friend like Nancy Pelosi in your corner you really should not turn your back.

OPEN HOUSE SUCCESS
We had a great MCGOP Open House last Saturday at headquarters. Lots of folks got signs and literature and came by to visit and discuss recent national events, the violence at the the rally and the success of the Milwaukee GOP Convention.
While we're the political minority here in Montgomery County it's obvious we're here and won't be silenced by intimidation and threats. Thanks to everyone who came by, keep it up and keep volunteering at all the sites in this newsletter.

Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada
By Lori Jaffe
Recently the Montgomery County Taxpayers League hosted our new Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Chief, Marc Yamada. He came across as an intelligent, experienced police officer with great communication skills who has taken on a big mission - striking a balance between the Left’s agenda and what the majority of the county residents want from their police department. It will not be easy. He needs to hear from you.

The Reckless Rhetoric of the Left: A Threat to Democracy and President Trump’s Safety
By Carolyn Spencer / July 14, 2024
The recent attempted assassination of President Trump marks a chilling moment in American history, highlighting the dangerous consequences of the radical left’s reckless language since 2016. From inflammatory comments by public figures to overtly hostile remarks on social media, the seeds of violence have been sown and cultivated, creating a volatile political climate.

Yesterday's assassination attempt on President Trump was a horrible reminder that our social fabric is fraying. LIke you, when I first heard of the shooting I prayed for his safety. Our prayers were answered.
He is a strong man, he is a fighter, and someone we're about to nominate to retake the White House in November. Our GOP Convention in Milwaukee will change, not the great party we've been looking forward to but a more somber and serious effort to rescue this country from the chaos and divisiveness of the last four years.
In sadness there is hope. We grieve for those killed and injured.
We still pray. We pray for the energy to make change happen, the ability to support our great candidates who will carry out the change, and the resourcefulness to convince our fellow Marylanders, and fellow Americans, to join us in our efforts to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.
God bless America.

USURPING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE

The Montgomery County Council continues its efforts to ignore what its constituents believe are the best policies for our county. Two issues of concern will have a hearing on Tuesday, July 16, at 1:30
- Term Limits. We are close to getting the necessary 10,000 signatures certified for the 2T petition. This amendment would change from three to two the number of consecutive terms that a County Executive can serve. The Charter Review Commission recommended a counter proposal that thus far has not been taken up by the Council, but the session is not quite over so we need to be vigilant. We will have several people speaking IN FAVOR of the term limits petition.
- Property Taxes. Currently increases in property taxes can only occur with a unanimous vote by the Council. However, the Council will be discussing a proposal to lower the requirement to two-thirds, or eight out of the 11 members of the Council. We will have several people testifying AGAINST this proposal.
Please come to the County Council to lend your support for those testifying on the 2T petition and the property taxes proposal. The hearing is at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 16, at:
Council Hearing Room (Third Floor)
100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850
Here is a link to the agenda for that day, since these two items will not be discussed right at 1:30pm:
Go to page three of the attachment. Our two items are number eight and number 10 out of 10 during the 1:30 - 3:30 pm session.

“ATTAINABLE” HOUSING - PUTTING THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE

By Lori Jaffe
The MoCo Planning Board has big plans for us. They want to make our rural and suburban communities more like big cities – crowded and expensive to live in. To make matters worse, the initiative puts the “cart before the horse.” Our county is just not ready for this outbreak of overdevelopment that is about to take place. Come to the July 18 session to hear more about plans to make it easier for developers to turn MoCo into a money machine. To keep informed, subscribe at Empowering People in Communities (EPIC) of MoCo.
