EARLY VOTING WAS AMAZING

Our MCGOP Volunteers are amazing. So many folks came out to early vote and our folks didn't let them down. On the last day they had a 90 minute wait in the evening at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. And it was like that all over MoCo. Try to vote early November 5, although the polls will remain open till the last person in line has cast their ballot.

The Huessy Report Election '24

Weekly Report from Peter Huessy and Montgomery County on November 4, 2024

Dear Friends: We have new polling data, economic data re Trump’s economy vs Harris/Biden; the windfall Iran has received from oil sales; job openings are dropping; retirement accounts lost $2.5 trillion in purchasing power since 2021; school choice on the ballot; plus, some interesting voting numbers from elections going all the way back to 1976.

Our report today starts with a newly released poll from the Daily Mail released Thursday, showed Trump with 49 percent support among likely voters, while Harris had 46 percent, marking a four-point swing since last month, when Harris led by one point.

The poll came as some national forecasters echoed a similar shift. Aggregators such as RealClearPolitics have recently placed Trump slightly ahead of Harris, with a lead of just 0.4 points. Meanwhile, polling averages from FiveThirtyEight showed Harris holding a narrow 1.4-point lead, but with a declining trend over recent weeks.

CHANGE IS IN THE AIR

We’re engaged in this election like none I remember.

Talk to your neighbors at the polls, talk to your family and friends, this one seems so important.

Lots more people are voting by mail – including Republicans who were reticent to do that, and usually only come out on election day. Early voting all around the county, and all around the country, has been strong. Even in the hurricane ravaged areas of North Carolina folks are standing in line to have their votes counted. A change is in the air. Can you feel it?

We probably won’t know on election night what the result is, perhaps even days later, the polls have been wrong the past three elections so don’t go to Vegas and bet on them! But if you're like me you can see that groups seem to be realigning, that’s what four years of hardship seem to do.

You speak to so many folks you think are going one way and they surprise you. Workers groups, minority groups, even immigrant groups with American citizenship – they all seem to want change.

Make your voice heard, vote as soon as you can, and we'll be standing with you.

We are ready for November 6 - and beyond - and we’ll see if the election results will be contentious or accepted.  If you remember 2016 we'll probably see that again, a free and fair election is what our country needs. And getting that will do a lot to bring the country together.

THE ONLY POLL THAT MATTERS

Harry Truman after winning the 1948 Presidential election.

Now that we are in the Early Voting season, we are hearing about “the polls.” One candidate is up and then is down. We don’t know how the pollsters are getting reliable information. Maybe it’s not so reliable. One thing is certain – the only poll that really matters is the final one on Election Day. So don’t be lulled into a false sense of security – we can still lose. This is your chance to make your voice heard. Let’s look at some unexpected outcomes in past elections.

From The Conversation: “The question looms in nearly every U.S. presidential election, even in this year’s race: Could the polls be wrong? If they are, they likely will err in unique fashion. The history of election polling says as much."
