Quote of the Week

Whenever there is a revolution in military affairs, there is a predictable recurrence of hype. It probably began when the first suit of armor led to the proclamation of the death of the slingshot. Ask Goliath how that worked out. by Barry Strauss via Strategika

HONORING AL PHILLIPS

L to R, Al Phillips, Stacey Sauter and Dennis Melby

Last week the Montgomery County Republican Party honored Committee Member Al Phillips for his years of service as a community member, candidate, political mentor to others and a leader in the Republican Party. Mr. & Mrs. Phillips are moving in West Virginia and we wish them well.

BIDENOMICS

We tease the Democrats 'cause we can't afford not to!

VOLUNTEERS FOR PARROTT

Many members of the Republican Women's Clubs joined April Parrott for two days of literature coordination in support of our Congressional Nominee Neil Parrott for US Congress. About 60 women and men worked at MCGOP Headquarters for two days last week helping the campaign. Parrott's website is located below, a great source for information about events, donations and issues.

ANGRY DEMOCRATS

All week I've been getting phone calls and emails from angry Democrats. They're so upset that The Committee for Better Government has delivered the first set of petitions to limit the Montgomery County Executive to two terms. The first set with almost 13,000 signatures, with thousands more to come.

I calm them down, and tell them yes - there's still time for them to sign. After all, most of the signatures are from Democrats and Non-affiliated, but so many folks thought they'd lost their chance to sign.

No, there's still time. You'll see signature collectors at grocery stores, at community events and local fairs and festivals. Now's your chance to treat the County Exec like the US President and the MD Governor, and most of the other Maryland County Executives - two terms (2T).

But sign when you get a chance, you don't want to be left out of the list. And thanks for all the 2T Committee, their volunteers, collectors, neighbors and friends for making this happen!

Here's the link to their site for more information.

THE REPUBLICAN HOLIDAY OF JUNETEENTH

On Wednesday we celebrate the great Republican holiday of Juneteenth.

Our party was founded to put an end once and for all to slavery. We were opposed at every turn by the Democrats and ended up in the depths of a horrible civil war, costing more American lives than any other conflict, but we prevailed.

When President Lincoln put forth the Emancipation Proclamation it took the troops to put it into effect. Juneteenth was the last date that the last state got the word out about freedom. It wasn’t even realized right here in the Montgomery County area until about that time.

We’ve made such great strides since the Republican party started us down this road, but the battle isn’t over. There are folks that have expanded their hatred toward every skin color, race and religion - and we have to be vigilant.

But today we thank Lincoln, Douglass and so many Republican founders for setting us on this road. Happy Juneteenth!

MARC ELRICH - MAN OF THE "WEALTHY" PEOPLE

By Lori Jaffe

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich wants you to think that he is a “man of the people.” But does he really represent you? Or does he listen more to the elite class? And do their ideas make sense? You can help the Committee for Better Government limit him to two terms, but you must act soon. Ten thousand valid signatures must be gathered by July 29. (See below).

So, who does Elrich represent? You can get a good idea by reviewing some of his videos to see his recommendations on how you should live your life.

California Dreamin’

The coming California budget cuts are just the beginning

By Joshua Rauh

Facing a massive budget deficit for the coming fiscal year, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s revised state budget for 2024-2025 addresses a $45-billion gap. Even as the Legislature debates the governor’s proposals, which include significant cuts to such priority areas as homelessness spending, the question remains whether California can reset itself on a sustainable fiscal path.

Unfortunately, the cuts will do very little to shore up the long-term fiscal health of the state.
