There are three big issues here. First, Berkeley wakes up and decides that the homeless are a serious problem. Second, the head of the Heritage Foundation lays out why the energy/climate crisis is going to cause widespread energy poverty and serious economic hardship if continued. And third, the House Budget Committee has passed and sent to the House a number of balanced budget plans as well as getting approved by Congress and "help[ed] lead the debt ceiling negotiations, which yielded the biggest discretionary spending cuts in 10 years.”

We have talked about how much we hate the proliferation of mail-in ballots and how we fear that this expanding use invites fraud. But perhaps we need to take the next step and examine how exactly this opportunity for fraud exists and why our own use of a mail-in ballot does not increase the risk of fraud but in fact might reduce that risk.

I feel I need to voice my recommendation when making your selections for the board of education candidates. There's no question about District 2 - Brenda Diaz, our endorsed candidate, is a shining star. As a 20+ year educator, working inside the system, she is well aware of the causes of our spiraling downward school system. Her platform focuses on academic excellence for all students, prioritizing safety and parental involvement.

Our parties watch each other - Trust but Verify is a quote from President Reagan - rephrased from the Russian. It served him well and serves us well.
So check out our voters guide, sign up for a mail in ballot, chat politely with your family, neighbors and friends, and make your voice heard. In a democracy we choose our leaders - they're not chosen for us by the Party or the Junta. Chose wisely and make your wishes known.
We'll all work hard to have a free and fair election, it's going on now.

When we asked if he voted in Montgomery County, he said, “I don’t vote at all.” He looked like he preferred to be left alone so we moved along. But we thought it would be useful to remind you of some very close elections. Your vote really does matter.
