HONORING OUR POLICE - BACK THE BLUE

NEXT EVENT IS APRIL 30 IN GERMANTOWN

by Susan Baker

The first Back the Blue (BTB) event of 2024 was held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Being my first one, I learned that all the Republican Women’s Clubs (Chevy Chase, Potomac, Rural, and Upper County) and the MCGOP Republican Central Committee have actually been involved in this effort supporting our police for the past five years. I arrived at Police District 4 with several others and helped them set up, bringing food, drinks, snacks and signs of support for the police.

Officers and staff came and went. Some stayed a bit, and we mingled and talked with them with happy spirits all around. I had an especially good conversation with three officers with whom I shared my experiences taking the MC Police Citizens’ Academy. They all said how pleased they were that I had attended, enjoyed, and learned so much about the work they do, and that I am an alumna of the Academy (I had my badge on). I shared an exciting conversation with one of the officers about community household security, the available systems, and the physical aspects. I learned a lot. I goofed and ate a cookie, and the Officer I was talking with said that it was OK that I had eaten their cookie… "It is a good thing" … as he patted his belly.

BANG FOR THE BUCK

By Dennis Melby

Today, Monday April 15 is the Day. Write the check and mail it in – the government thanks you.

If you pay taxes, do you think they’re spent well?

  • Public Education
  • Public Safety
  • Military Defense
  • Social Services
  • Debt Service
  • Salaries of those we elect

Lots of folks don’t think we get the bang for the buck. In this county most of our money goes to funding public education, yet our professionals always tout that next year will be better, next year we’ll spend more money and finally get great teachers and more great administrators who’ll be able to close the forever gap between poor performing kids and those who excel (a gap that doesn’t exist in non-government schools).

Another big pot goes to public safety. Yet people don’t want to be Cops. Many in the government don’t support them – and government officials are torn between defunding the police and paying premiums and signing bonuses to attract people to work for a non-supportive government. Quite a quandary.

OFF THE FISCAL CLIFF

By Lori Jaffe

It’s Your Money – Take Action Now!

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is driving us taxpayers over a fiscal cliff. We need to take his foot off the accelerator and put on the brakes. You can help the Committee for Better Government limit him to two terms but you must act soon. Ten thousand valid signatures must be gathered by August 2024. (See below).

During his March 14, 2024, FY25 Operating Budget Press Event, Elrich said that he feels “really good” (0:27) about the FY2025 Budget. This is his 18th budget. His 6th as county executive and 12th as council member. Yes, he’s been in power for a very long time.

He continued (3:34): “We could have taken a $25 million cut in this budget to stay within our MOE guidelines. We didn’t do that because that would have meant pulling teachers out of classrooms and doing things that would have been disruptive to schools. So, we are at, you know, $132M over last year.” Yes, that’s 132,000,000 taxpayer dollars.

(4:22) He congratulates Montgomery College: “You get points for reality-based budgeting.” He says, “…when you understand what your resources are and build a budget understanding the resources. Not everybody does that.” Yes, not even Marc Elrich does that.

West Coast, Messed Coast™: Minimum Wage Rises, Thousands Lose Their Jobs, Democrat Elites Laugh by Victoria Taft, PJ Media, April 6th, 2024

California increased its minimum wage for fast food business to $20. Leading up to when the increase went into effect, (April 1), Pizza Hut and Roundtable Pizza laid off 1,500 drivers up and down the state. Those restaurants joined Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon in pre-announcing staff cutbacks. In Redding, California 18 Subway sandwich shops, family-owned, closed overnight. “This is just a harbinger of things that will come,” said one business owner. That was echoed by a Los Angeles restauranteur who warned America that, "This man [Gavin Newsom] is destroying California."

FREEDOM TO CHOOSE YOUR CAR

By Lori Jaffe

If Marc Elrich gets his way, soon you will no longer be able to choose the type of vehicle you will drive in Montgomery County.

But most Americans want freedom, and they don’t want electric vehicles. Although the cost of charging an EV remains low, range anxiety, long charging times and vehicle cost make buying and owning an EV problematic. And because most Americans don’t want electric vehicles, car companies are reducing production. Automakers Delay Electric Vehicle Spending as Demand Slows: “Growth is brisk but slower than expected, causing automakers to question their multibillion-dollar investments in new factories and raising doubts about the effectiveness of federal incentives.”
