THE REPUBLICAN HOLIDAY OF JUNETEENTH

On Wednesday we celebrate the great Republican holiday of Juneteenth.

Our party was founded to put an end once and for all to slavery. We were opposed at every turn by the Democrats and ended up in the depths of a horrible civil war, costing more American lives than any other conflict, but we prevailed.

When President Lincoln put forth the Emancipation Proclamation it took the troops to put it into effect. Juneteenth was the last date that the last state got the word out about freedom. It wasn’t even realized right here in the Montgomery County area until about that time.

We’ve made such great strides since the Republican party started us down this road, but the battle isn’t over. There are folks that have expanded their hatred toward every skin color, race and religion - and we have to be vigilant.

But today we thank Lincoln, Douglass and so many Republican founders for setting us on this road. Happy Juneteenth!

California Dreamin’

The coming California budget cuts are just the beginning

By Joshua Rauh

Facing a massive budget deficit for the coming fiscal year, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s revised state budget for 2024-2025 addresses a $45-billion gap. Even as the Legislature debates the governor’s proposals, which include significant cuts to such priority areas as homelessness spending, the question remains whether California can reset itself on a sustainable fiscal path.

Unfortunately, the cuts will do very little to shore up the long-term fiscal health of the state.

How to Say “Thank You”

According to the National World War II Museum, “Nearly 160,000 Allied troops landed on D-Day, major forces from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and 12 other Allied nations. Some 23,400 airborne troops jumped into Normandy from 822 aircraft and gliders. Over 34,000 Americans came ashore at Omaha alone on June 6.” “The Allies suffered over 10,300 total casualties (killed, wounded, or missing), of which approximately 2,400 were on Omaha Beach.”

Today, many Americans don't know about D-Day, what it was and why it was needed. The sad truth is that many in our younger generations were never taught about the many wars in which Americans fought and died for their country. They have no idea why these wars were fought or what the military men and women - and their families - endured to fight in these wars.

But there are enough of us who do know. And we can make a difference. Here are some of the things that you can do to say “thank you” to those who sacrificed for our country.

The Polluter Elite

By Lori Jaffe

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich says that he believes in climate change and thinks we all ought to change the way we live. In his video, “Welcome to my Eco-friendly Home,” he extolls the virtues of his Niro electric vehicle. But Elrich doesn’t let climate change stand in his way. With him, it’s “Do as I say, not as I do.” You can help the Committee for Better Government limit him to two terms, but you must act soon. Ten thousand valid signatures must be gathered by August 2024. (See below).

At the 2022 County Executive Candidate Forum, when asked about the feasibility of building gas pumps at White Flint, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said, (0:14) “Gas pumps are pretty much going to be obsolete in not too long.” (0:29) “For those of us who live in the real world and believe in climate change…” He sounded like he really believed what he was saying.

This video presentation is frightening but needs to be viewed by every Marylander. The guest speakers are top experts on the drug menace to this country including marijuana. And the role of China. As you know 109,000 Americans die from drug overdoses each year, and it’s connected to the massive illegal immigration on our southern border, including 40,000 young men of military age from China. The Chinese organized crime gang are Triads and they are selling vast amounts of drugs in the USA.

Marijuana farms run by Chinese organized crime is adding chemicals to the weed to produce psychosis in children. Also, fentanyl is being used to lace other drugs to increase potency and also to destroy communities. Deja Vu

By Brad Botwin

I am always amazed how the quotes of Yankee Hall of Famer Yogi Berra continue to be relevant decades after they were enshrined in American Folklore.  Take the quote, “It’s like déjà vu all over again”.  Nothing more accurately captured the theme of MoCo’s April 30 Jeremiah Park Community input session (regarding the future use of county property off Crabbs Branch Way in Derwood.  Valuable county property walking distance from the Shady Grove Red Line Metro Station.
