The Huessy Report
My weekly report to Montgomery County Republicans and Friends. Here we have illegal immigration, a congested tax, terrorism, and the fires in California. Best, Peter Huessy
California Dreamen’: The billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Times blasted the city’s mayor, Democrat Karen Bass, for her “poor planning” and “poor judgment” in slashing the budget for the fire department, which has been hamstrung while trying to contain the wildfires that have devastated entire neighborhoods. The Mayor sought $28 million in fire department cuts and got $17 million. She was travelling in Ghana during the fires. Hydrants had no water. The governor said water is a local issue while the mayor’s office said water is a state issue.

By Ken Dalecki
"I'm Jimmy Carter and I'm running for President," the little-known ex-governor of Georgia announced in the crowded ballroom of the National Press Club on Dec. 12, 1974. I was among the journalists who heard Carter describe himself as “a farmer, an engineer, a businessman, a planner, a scientist, a governor and a Christian.”
The announcement wasn't a surprise: He'd already made it at the little railroad station in Plains, Ga., what would serve as his official campaign headquarters, and he would do it again later that day in New York City. His seemingly quixotic effort was something of a local story for me. The Thomson Newspaper chain for which I worked had a Washington bureau on the 11th floor of the National Press Building. Thomson owned six newspapers in Georgia, including The Cordele Dispatch just east of Plains. Carter would go on to narrowly win the presidency against a Watergate-hobbled President Gerald Ford.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT
It's been my honor to serve as the local Republican Chair for this important year. I am inspired by the optimism in the air and the gathering of the White House, House of Representatives and Senate under one Party. I do believe better days are ahead for the country.

Thank you for your support and friendship - we've accomplished a lot in an area not known for it's embrace of moderate and conservative values.
There's much left to do, as always, and I, like you, stand ready to help our new leadership, our soon to announce 2026 candidates for local and state office, and our federal administration as they grapple with the issues and opportunities of 2025 and beyond.
All the best, and thanks for your support.
Dennis Melby
2024 MCGOP Chairman

President-Elect Donald Trump is on his way to becoming the 47th U.S. President. At the 2024 Republican National Convention, his granddaughter Kai said “A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell. And he’s still standing.” “The media makes my grandpa seem like a different person, but I know him for who he is. He’s very caring and loving. He truly wants the best for this country. And he will fight every single day to make America great again.” So, what will he face?

How Biden Screwed the Steelworkers 1/3/2025
Japan, one of our closest allies, wanted the deal. So did Pittsburgh steelworkers and members of the president's cabinet. So why did he block it?
By Ethan Dodd
Back in April, when President Joe Biden was still running for reelection, he told a gathering of steelworkers in Pittsburgh that “I have your back.” On Friday afternoon, just three weeks before leaving office, he stuck a knife in their backs.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
The Maryland General Assembly passes thousands of bills every year that impact our daily
lives. Each session is only 90 days; this year it begins on Wednesday, January 8, and ends on Monday, April 7.
In recent years, the Assembly has been passing increasingly Left-leaning bills. This unfortunate situation arises from the fact that the Democrats have a supermajority in the Assembly: Out of 47 Senate members, only 13 are Republicans; out of 141 House members, only 39 are Republicans. Therefore, even when we had a Republican in the Governor’s seat, the Assembly could override his vetoes. That is how we became a Sanctuary State for illegal immigrants a few years ago.
In order to prevent the worst legislation from passing (and help positive bills pass), we must advocate while the bills are still being heard in their respective committees. That is how, for example, we have managed to keep the absurd ranked choice voting bills from becoming law.
Please join us in this advocacy work! The best way to do so is to subscribe to MFRW Legislative Chair Ella Ennis’s email list ([email protected]) and to answer our calls to testify and write letters for and against upcoming bills. We will help you! For more information, please contact Legislative Chair Amy Waychoff at [email protected].
