Romper Room and a Primer on Ranked Choice Voting (“RCV”)

Does anyone out there remember the nationally-syndicated TV show Romper Room? I certainly do. And if I could momentarily borrow Miss Nancy’s “Magic Mirror” and ask which one of you “Do Bees” fully understands “ranked choice voting,” I imagine the hands I’d immediately see popping up are among voters in the People’s Republic of Takoma Park – presently the only jurisdiction in Maryland to use it. Is it any surprise that Takoma Park’s favorite son, socialist County Executive Marc Elrich and his merry band of Democrat Do Bees, are pushing our state legislature to adopt RCV, or alternatively an “approval method” of voting throughout Montgomery County? 

I cannot explain the amazing privilege I feel every day working in Congress. Not only do I have a job where I can provide for myself, but one with perks completely like no other. I have a 24/7 badge that allows me to admire the beauty and craftsmanship of our Capitol and I give tours to my boss’s constituents so they too can marvel at the history and architecture.

The "Road Diet" is becoming an alarming concept to many Montgomery County residents. Citizens in Kenwood are suing the government over road restrictions limiting safe access to cars on Little Falls Parkway. All over the county we see bike lanes (most often unused) replacing needed lanes of traffic.

Whether you have an electric car or gas propelled makes no difference, your access is restrained and the message is to ride a bike or take METRO - the bus or the subway and walk.

We want to know your thoughts, is this the way to go? Is there a crisis? Are there alternatives? Is government funded mass-transit the best option? (probably not the New York City Subway - but something like it) Tell us what you think.

            The State of the Union was like any other day for me. I woke up at 6am, I got on the Metro, and headed to the Capitol to start my work day. On a normal day, the Capitol grounds is free for the public to roam, but today there were fences. Fences which were heavy duty unlike the typical protest barricades.
