WHAT DEFINES BEING A CONSERVATIVE?

By Stacey Sauter

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear that someone identifies as a liberal? Mostly likely that they’re a Democrat. It seems confusing then, that Western civilization is built upon the concept of liberalism, a political and moral philosophy grounded in the consent of the governed. Yet do today’s “liberals” uphold those virtues of “liberalism?” Classic liberalism bestowed freedom on “we the people” by our founding fathers. Our U.S. Constitution blessed us all with personal liberty and individual rights, including the right to private property, political equality, and equality before the law. The very values that we “conservatives” are constantly fighting to “conserve” against progressive liberal doctrine.

We believe in the rights embedded in our Constitution. Such as the individual right to make personal choices and to act freely upon them so long as you’re not breaking the law or hurting anyone. We believe in free speech, the right to peacefully assemble, the right to practice any religion, and the right to privacy. And yes, we fight to “conserve” those values as should anyone who calls themselves an American.

RESTORING AMERICA

By Lori Jaffe

President Trump has been in office for about two weeks, and we already see several positive changes. He is standing up an infrastructure led by strong men and women who are dedicated to restoring America. Through his executive orders, and by rescinding some invoked by the previous president, he has taken the reigns of our federal government and is turning it around. “To commence the policies that will make our Nation united, fair, safe, and prosperous again, it is the policy of the United States to restore common sense to the Federal Government and unleash the potential of the American citizen.  The revocations within this order will be the first of many steps the United States Federal Government will take to repair our institutions and our economy.” Here are a few examples:

By Miriam Gutierrez, Jan 21, 2025

In recent years, there has been an unprecedented number of illegal aliens entering onto US soil.  Illegal aliens encountered at U.S. borders include suspected terrorists, those requesting asylum, unaccompanied children, convicted criminals, human traffickers, and drug traffickers. Some people who are trafficking illegal aliens have come from Latin American countries, such as Venezuela. The Venezuela’s Maduro Regime has instigated a mass migration onto U.S. soil since 2021, increasing the flow of migration into the U.S.

Thoughts on the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project

By Richard Collins

The Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP) poses a significant threat to Maryland's farmland, property owners, and local communities. This issue transcends political affiliations, demanding immediate action to delay and reassess the project’s feasibility. Solutions must emphasize innovative approaches to energy generation and distribution, moving beyond outdated infrastructure models like the "67-Mile Extension Cord."

Government-Speak

Language from your Montgomery County government. Instead of saying "We killed the sick chickens"...they "depopulated" them!

" On Thursday, Jan. 30, the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) announced that laboratory testing has detected a case of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in a Montgomery County backyard flock. MDA officials have quarantined all affected premises, and birds on the properties have been depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease. Birds from the affected flock will not enter the food system."

The Huessy Report

Weekly Montgomery County report from Peter Huessy Week of February 3, 2025

For this week, how is the President doing on issues? How did union members vote in 2024? School Choice Advances in Tennessee and Texas; the role of DEI in the crash at Reagan airport explored---program severely criticized many years ago including by the Chicago Tribune, Tucker Carlson, and GAO. The President signed the Laken Riley Act into law. For those interested in missile and air defense, a former classmate of mine (Mr. McGee) writes about an Iron Dome technology for the United States. It regularly intercepts some 95-99% of rockets and missiles launched by Hamas, the Houthis and Hezbollah. And what is going on—is the US measuring up re reading and math test scores? Some new data shows the schools are slipping, Maryland students lost 6 points and only two states improved.
