Listen

Our new chairman, Dennis Melby, invited me to write a short and sweet piece for the newsletter. Something positive. Was he kidding? He’s a very smart man who stays current on all the news, and this is a newsletter for a political organization. Politics by its nature is less warm and a lot more fuzzy. What was there to say?

But as the old saying goes, a funny thing happened on the way to the forum. In my case, on my way to Mass. As usual, last Sunday I needed to pack my 12-minute trip into ten minutes if I wanted to arrive before the church bells’ final toll. On my way I was speeding while flipping through radio stations, frustrated by a spate of commercials. Oddly, because I rarely ever do this, I decided to turn it off  and listen to what God might be broadcasting instead. It was notably silent, but not for long. Just a couple of minutes later, and as I was preparing to make a left turn, a cyclist came careening at me from around the corner with his bike out of control and fighting hard to avoid a collision. It seemed inevitable that he would crash into me, potentially flying over my hood and into moving traffic. Mind you, at this point both my hands were on the wheel, and I was quickly able to maneuver my car far enough out of the way without hitting another so that he had just enough space to stabilize his bike and – miraculously – move on unscathed. Thank you, God, I whispered the quiet part out loud. Ironically, the homily that day surrounded the theme of “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”

HELP AMERICA VOTE DAY

The Montgomery County Board of Elections is promoting Help America Vote Day on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. It’s a day of action established by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to encourage people across the U.S. to get involved in the electoral process by signing up to be an election worker and an opportunity to share information on how to register and cast a ballot. By encouraging people to become poll workers in their communities, the Board of Elections aims to inspire civic engagement, strengthen our democracy, and to ensure that elections are free and fair.

Maryland Republican Caucus: 2024 Priorities

The 446th Session of the Maryland General Assembly gaveled in on Wednesday, January 10th at noon. For the following 90 days, legislators in both chambers will consider hundreds of bills impacting the lives of Marylanders. Below, we have shared important links to stay connected to this legislative session.

Hot topics will most likely be: improving public safety and juvenile crime, addressing the impending budget shortfall, housing, transportation and environmental and energy issues.  For the first time in several years, the General Assembly is faced with a significant and growing budget shortfall and Democrats are hinting at tax and fee increases to close the gaps. Our members will fight against any and all tax or fee increases and will instead focus on cutting spending and holding Democrats accountable for the expensive consequences of their policies.

TURN THINGS AROUND

2024 will be a great year for the Republican party. America needs a change.

  • We're going to take back the White House.
  • We're going to take back the United States Senate.
  • And we're going to have enough of a majority in the US House of Representatives that we don't have to elect a new speaker every six months!

And we’re gonna start that by electing a Republican congressmember in the Sixth Congressional District. We have five great candidates who are working hard, and we’re going to help the nominee.

We have so many groups, Hispanic Republicans, Young Republicans, so many folks are coming to the Republican Party because of disenchantment with the Democrats and their policies on illegal immigration, inflation, CRT and sex confusion in the public schools and tax and spend policies of local government. You can tell the turnout will finally bring the county and the country back to reality.

You're part of the solution. Sign up for the mail-in ballot to bank your vote, volunteer to work with Greg Decker. Volunteer to be involved with the Party with Lori Jaffe. Donate where you can - the Young Republicans this month are looking for help.

Sign up for our next event, the MCGOP Lunar New Year Celebration.

Thanks for being a great American. I'm happy you're with us.
