It’s Time To Restore Maryland: Common Sense and Good Governance

My story begins at Shady Grove Hospital in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where I was born on August 18, 1995. I attended Quality Time Early Learning Center, and my family was very involved in the Presbyterian Church, where I have my earliest memories. I moved to Brookeville, Maryland, and played football for the St. Peter’s Panthers. Later, I became a three-year varsity letterman on the football team at Sherwood High School. I moved down south to the Bible Belt and attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I tried out for the football team and earned a scholarship within six months. I received all-conference honors, started thirty-five games, and helped deliver the first championship in school history.

Chairman's Message

A Chairman’s Thanksgiving Thought

This Thanksgiving, we’re reminded of the importance of dialogue, leadership, and the willingness to engage with people from all walks of life. President Trump’s recent meeting with Mamdani underscores how meaningful it can be when individuals with differing views come together in good faith to talk, listen, and seek understanding.

The Melby Minute - Who Loves You Baby?

Saturday I saw Connie Morella at an event in Bethesda, and it reminded me how important it is to find common ground. Congresswoman Morella was a master at forging alliances with others on capitol hill to further efforts to keep the county strong and prosperous. And most of her time in Annapolis and DC she was in the minority – but her peers listened to her quite a bit.

We forget that folks agree with us more than we think, maybe it’s the Press, or the prism of "Social Media" that makes us forget how much we have in common. True, the political class (I guess I’m included in that) often makes enemies out of the other party, its members and elected officials. But we’re not all enemies.

If Mamdani and Trump can get along, can’t we?

MCGOP Opposes New Regional Education Boundary Model | Luke Thomas | November 16, 2025

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has recently advanced a proposal to restructure middle and high school programs into a new regional model, an initiative officials claim will promote “equity” and broaden access. In theory, this sounds admirable. In practice, it is deeply flawed.

MCPS argues that the current alignment gives some students more opportunities than others depending on where they live. Their solution is to dismantle long-standing, successful programs in favor of a decentralized “regional” system. While the goal of equal access is worthwhile, MCPS is prioritizing social engineering over academic excellence. Students will pay the price.
