While a Black death at the hands of police is the subject of national outrage, the numerous Black deaths that occur every day in our communities are ignored. The victims are often children, and their mothers are seldom given a platform to voice their opinions.

As we say adieu to the Year of the Rat, thé Ox arrived on February 12 with new hope and refreshed purpose. While we don’t dwell in the past, we certainly can look into the future with wisdom from lessons learned.

MCGOP has been celebrating this tradition for the past four years, usually with a banquet at The New Fortune restaurant in the middle of Montgomery County.

Gail Weiss, a Republican Central Committee member, was presented with the Chairman’s Award during the Winter Republican State Convention in December.  Dirk Haire, MD Party Chair, called Weiss "a hardworking and model Republican leader", and praised her efforts on the County, State and National stage.

Where do we go from here?

I have to imagine that is a question going through of lot of Republicans minds these days.  Especially Montgomery County Republicans who are outnumbered four to one and have no representation in county government.  With businesses still shuttered, schools still closed, and facing the largest tax increase in recent history…what comes next?

The new year brought leadership changes to the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee with the election of Reardon "Sully" Sullivan as the 2021 Chair.  

At the December meeting of the Central Committee two new members were elected to serve until 2022.
