Leisure World Republicans Celebrate
Come Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of American Freedom with us!
On July 8, at 7:00 pm, in Clubhouse One, the Chesapeake Room, The Republican Club will hold a party to honor the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which established the independence of the 13 American colonies from Great Britain. Members are asked to please bring their favorite foods to share with other attendees. It promises to be fun! Be prepared for a trivia quiz on the particulars of the Declaration of Independence!
Our invited speaker will add to the importance of the festivities. Come and meet Dolores Reyes, who is running for the Register of Wills position. Her goals are to make the probate process easier to understand, faster to navigate, and more accessible to every resident. She also supports community education to protect families, and she plans to offer compassionate public service.
Join us on July 8, at 7:00 pm, to party and celebrate the 250 years of American freedom through the signing of the Declaration of Independence. For more information about the Club, email Secretary Maria Dudish at [email protected]. Donations are being accepted for the Club’s communication fund for midterm elections: mail to RCLW, POB 12293, Silver Spring, MD, 20908.

CHOOSE WISELY
By Dennis Brent Melby
I was at a polling place last week and introduced myself to a few of the volunteers who were working so hard to get their favorite candidates elected. “Hi, I’m Dennis Melby, Chairman of the Republican Party,” I said. “That’s too bad!” said a young lady at a Democrat table. “I’m surprised you’d show your face.”
I said that surely she must want a two-party system, and she said, "Yes…but I don’t think the Republicans should be one of them!" What a statement. She fancied herself a Democrat Socialist right there in Silver Spring. They surged to prominence last week, locally here in MoCo and DC, nationally in New York. Some folks are comparing them to communists, some to the National Socialists. Either way, they’re bad news.
Are you entitled to what your neighbor has? Should the government take her stuff and give it to you for “equity”? If you have extra room in your home should the government be able to make you share that space with others? …your food? …your money? Socialism’s the step before Communism-which of course can’t come here – unless you think many of the folks who won the Democrat primaries last week have that in mind as the 'equitable outcome.'
Life in the projects was never appealing to many folks.
They’re expanding rent control in New York City, and if the private landlords don’t tow the line, they’ll confiscate the property for city ownership. Is it your dream to live in public housing? I don’t know about you but life in the projects was never appealing to many folks. Here in Montgomery County I heard that the number of renters has risen to over 45%. Renting by choice is a personal decision – and it often doesn’t make folks want to invest in their community, care for the property like it’s their own, or worry about the property tax rate. Renters are great folks, but they may have different motivations than homeowners.

Hopefully MOCO can be saved, but every election I am less and less hopeful. However, I'll be casting my ballot later today!
